Job description

Job Summary: Provides Critical Care Transport Paramedic (CCTP) level of care, within the scope of Act 37, to Life Flight patients in conjunction with the Flight Nurse. The Critical Care Transport Paramedic functions as a non-essential team member in Geisinger Emergency Departments and assists healthcare providers in delivering care to Emergency Department patients as needed. The role requires providing care for patients from birth to over 100 years old.

Job Duties
  1. Provides critical care transport at the paramedic level until patient care is transferred to an accepting medical facility.
  2. Maintains thorough patient care documentation in the electronic medical record.
  3. Practices within the paramedic scope of practice as defined by a medical command physician, regional protocols, or the Department of Health EMS ACT 37.
  4. Maintains competency through ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences.
  5. Communicates educational needs to relevant supervisors and educators.
  6. Maintains Pennsylvania Department of Health medical command status.
  7. If not previously certified, acquires the FP-C credential within one year of hire.
  8. Functions in a critical care flight role with an expanded scope of practice approved by the Medical Director and Department of Health.
  9. May function in a non-essential per diem role in Emergency Departments as permitted.
  10. Maintains competency with equipment and supplies used by Life Flight.
  11. Ensures cleanliness and organization of the medical interior of helicopters.
  12. Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment at each base.
  13. Ensures the safety and cleanliness of helipads at all hangar locations.
  14. Acts as a flight crew member and assists the pilot as needed.
  15. Follows safety standards during all phases of flight.
  16. Participates in preflight and post-flight briefings.
  17. Acts as a preceptor and participates in orientation of new employees and students.
  18. Assists in safety briefings as needed.
  19. Stays current on issues related to paramedics through professional activities.
  20. Participates in educational requirements to maintain active status.
  21. Identifies processes that could lead to errors or adverse events.
  22. Participates in patient safety education programs and activities.

Work Environment: Works in and around aircraft, exposed to infectious diseases, chemical toxins, noise, vibration, fumes, and extreme temperatures. May require sitting for long periods. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. Travel may be required. Cannot exceed 250 lbs in flight gear.

Position Details: Requires graduation from a Specialty Training Program and a minimum of 3 years of related work experience. Certification(s) and licenses as specified.
