Job summary

WVU Health System in Wheeling, WV seeks an experienced Nurse Practitioner specialized in acute/critical care to manage inpatient care for critically ill patients. You will collaborate with the Critical Care team, order tests, interpret results, and contribute to discharge planning.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master's Degree in Nursing.
• National Certification by recognized APRN Certification Centers.
• Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.
• BLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training per department.
• FCCS Certification required immediately upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Manages comprehensive and individualized care for patients and families in the Inpatient/Critical care phase of hospitalization.
• Orders additional tests or consults with Critical Care staff or by following established protocol.
• Performs, interprets and communicates results of diagnostic tests.
• Communicates with Critical Care and inter-professional services regarding abnormal findings.
• Develops a comprehensive plan of care including teaching and discharge planning.
• Participates in physician/team rounds.
• Identifies unstable or complex patient care situations and coordinates interventions.
• Recognizes emergencies and initiates emergency care.
• Uses clinical reasoning in decision making for patient needs.
• Uses basic equipment safely.
• Facilitates patient discharge disposition or transfer.
• Bases decisions on established standards and research findings.
• Promotes learning by responding to patient/family needs and readiness to learn.
• Updates knowledge base throughout the year.
• Completes all identified clinical competencies.
• Mentors nursing personnel in clinical practice.
• Communicates with patients, families, and teams to ensure coordinated care.
• Documents plan of care, interventions and evaluations clearly.
• Adheres to WVU Employees' Performance expectations.
• Performs initial assessments and plans for new admissions in the ICU.
• Ensures current and accurate patient summaries and orders.
• Ensures smooth transition to next team when patient leaves ICU.
• Performs procedures as directed by the Critical Care Team.
