Job Summary:

Westchester Medical Center is seeking a collaborative and motivated Critical Care Anesthesiologist to join the Department of Anesthesiology. Westchester Medical Center understands the value Anesthesiologists bring to our unique patient population. We seek additional Critical Care Anesthesiologists to support our growth and our academic mission to serve our patients in the Hudson Valley. The physician will work in critical care in a joint appointment providing general anesthesia as well. The position will encompass the best of both care models.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing anesthetic care in critical situations.
  • Manage treatment and coordinate care with other specialists to deliver comprehensive care in our ICUs.
  • Lead daily rounds with the ICU team and surgical team.
  • Oversight of the Post Anesthesia Recovery Room (PACU).
  • Engage in research and contribute to advances in anesthesiology and surgical critical care.
  • Provide dedicated 24/7 coverage for complex, critically ill multidisciplinary patients, surgery patients.
  • Collaborate closely with traumatologists and surgical critical care intensivists to provide comprehensive critical care for patients in the Hudson Valley.
  • Curriculum development for surgical and anesthesiology residents and fellows in anesthesia and surgical critical care.
  • Fellowship Education and Ultrasound curriculum and training.
  • Share flexible rotations in the cardiothoracic ICU.
  • Participate in a flexible OR call schedule with post-call days off to ensure work-life balance.
  • Work nocturnist hours, if desired, to provide oversight, teaching and to ensure 24/7 coverage of all critically ill patients at Westchester Medical Center.
  • Teach surgical, anesthesiology, medicine residents, fellows and medical students.

Intensive Care Units (ICUs) we cover include:

  • Cardiac Surgical ICU: Care for patients who have undergone complex procedures such as valve surgery, cardiac assist devices, transplant and coronary bypass surgery.
  • General Surgical ICU: Care for patients with severe trauma and those who have had significant thoracic, neurosurgical, abdominal, or orthopedic surgery.
  • Trauma ICU: Care for patients with complex neurotrauma requiring intensive monitoring and intervention.
  • Conduct diagnostic assessments and recommendations before surgery.
  • Discuss potential resuscitation and life-support scenarios with patients and their families.
  • Provide compassionate guidance during difficult decisions regarding patient care.
