Job summary

Friendship Academy in Pittsburgh is seeking a Support Therapist to provide therapeutic support for students with autism and mental health challenges at our school location. The role involves crisis intervention, behavior support, and collaboration with the treatment team.

Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology or Social Work, with preferred related experience. The position requires compliance with PA child clearances and a pre-employment TB test.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or closely related field required.
  • Related work experience in the field preferred.
  • Must be able to perform light work with moderate physical effort (up to 40 pounds).
  • Ability to use Comprehensive Crisis Management and Ukeru strategies for student safety.
  • Current PA Acts 34, 114 and 151 Clearances.
  • Pre-employment medical exam including TB test required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide crisis interventions and support for all students in the school.
  • Recognize and deescalate potential safety issues and address them before they become a risk.
  • Maintain emotional control and seek help when needed in stressful situations.
  • Support the classroom in the absence of the Classroom Therapist as needed.
  • Assist with student arrival and dismissal, metal detectors, and searching belongings for contraband.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment and school cohesiveness.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adapt to changes in the work environment.
  • Make timely, appropriate decisions.
  • Complete daily documentation as required.
  • Build therapeutic rapport with students through positive feedback and support.
  • Attend treatment team meetings and provide updates on student behavior and progress.
  • Participate in debriefings as scheduled and support school-wide behavioral plans.
  • Other duties as assigned.
