Mental Health Cooperative, Inc. (MHC) seeks a Crisis Counselor (Child & Youth) to provide face-to-face and telephone crisis intervention for individuals experiencing a mental health emergency.

The role supports families and youth across Middle and East Tennessee, with a schedule of Sunday through Tuesday from 8:00 pm to 8:00 am. Requirements include a Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or social work, a valid Tennessee driver’s license, and background clearance.

JOB TITLE

Crisis Counselor (Child & Youth)

JOB SUMMARY

Provide face-to-face and telephone crisis intervention services in the least restrictive manner to people experiencing a mental health emergency.

SCHEDULES AVAILABLE

Sunday - Tuesday 8:00pm - 8:00am

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Conduct crisis assessment and crisis intervention services to appropriately address the needs of consumers experiencing a psychiatric emergency.
2. Clinically assess for the least restrictive alternative to meet the needs of the consumers experiencing a psychiatric emergency.
3. When hospitalization is necessary, make appropriate referrals to facilities equipped to meet needs of the consumers.
4. Make appropriate referrals to Diversion Services to ensure they have necessary clinical information.
5. Actively participate in consult process with supervisory staff when dispositioning cares.
6. Provide follow-up services as indicated in the policies and procedures and as set forth in Title 33.
7. Develop individualized plans to meet needs of consumers in crisis.
8. Respond to requests for face-to-face assessment in a timely manner.
9. Maintain appropriate customer service skills at all times.
10. Assist Triage Counselors in answering and dispositioning incoming calls as needed.
11. Provide telephone counseling when needed.
12. Maintain accurate clinical records and complete documentation within departmental guidelines.
13. Coordinate services as needed with care management teams and provide consultation, as needed, with care management teams.
14. Assist community agencies with information and/or dispositions.
15. Educate community agencies as needed on crisis services as directed by supervisory staff.
16. Assist teammates as needed.

REQUIREMENTS

A mental health professional with specialized training in crisis intervention with a minimum of a Master’s degree in a related field (counseling, psychology or social work) Valid Tennessee Driver’s License Acceptable Criminal Background Investigation Personal Automobile Insurance Cell Phone

MHC was founded in Nashville, Tennessee, in response to the need for assertive community-based treatment for individuals who have required frequent inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. Since 1993, MHC has been passionately helping adults with severe mental illness to live quality lives in the community with our state-of-the-art treatment and support. In 1999, MHC recognized the need to support the whole family and expanded services to include children and youth. We established our non-profit agency by merging three community organizations: Urban Case Management of Meharry Community Health Center, Continuous Treatment Team of Council of Community Services, and Mobile Crisis Team of the Crisis Intervention Center. This fusion resulted in an innovative, comprehensive, and multidisciplinary approach that addresses the specialized needs of individuals living with severe behavioral health conditions and challenges related to poverty. MHC remains the only organization in the state focused solely on this population.
