Job summary

The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) seeks a Media and Communications Officer to design and implement a unified media strategy for public information distribution. You will serve as the agency’s press officer, craft press releases, coordinate interviews, and lead crisis communications planning with executive management.

You will collaborate with state agency communicators to support public information coordination, operate the state Joint Information Center, and oversee media

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in communications or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Five (5) years of related experience.
• Advanced degree may substitute for work experience.
• A completed advanced degree may substitute for work experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop a cohesive media and communications strategy.
• Respond to media inquiries and draft press releases.
• Schedule or conduct media interviews and press conferences.
• Manage joint information center during disasters.
• Coordinate with state and agency communications teams.
• Travel as required and manage multiple channels (website, social media).
