The Charter Township of Redford Police Department has one full-time opening for Crisis Clinician. The individual in this position is a behavioral health professional who supports police officers and the citizens of Redford Township. Rate of Pay : $70,950 - $93,093 Annually FLSA Status: Exempt/Full Time Reports To: Police Chief or Designee Benefits: Partial paid benefits including health insurance, defined benefit pension, paid vacation, paid sick leave and 14 paid holidays.

PURPOSE:

This position is a behavioral health professional who supports police officers and the citizens of Redford Township. The position has a wide range of responsibilities that include providing behavioral health assistance, engaging in community outreach, serving as a liaison between law enforcement and support services with the goal of creating an efficient and effective system that serves the needs of both the residents of Redford and law enforcement personnel. This position assesses individuals in crisis, provides de-escalation techniques, and referral services, and assists in developing comprehensive intervention plans. This position also supports family members of those individuals experiencing mental health crises in order to provide emergency stabilization services. An employee in this position works independently, collaborating with police officers to recognize individuals who may benefit from behavioral assistance and substance abuse disorder. This position may be required to work hours outside of the business day if urgency is of the utmost importance. The position works under the general supervision of the Redford Township Police Department Criminal Investigations Bureau Captain.

eXAMPLE OF DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES:

• Provides immediate behavioral health assistance to individuals in need, focusing on crisis situations, trauma-based matters, substance use, and mental health-related circumstances.
• Provides clinical assessment and referrals to individuals and/or family members to available services in the Wayne County area; assists with obtaining entitlements for individuals, working with families relative to guardianship petitions and/or petitions the courts for mental health treatment of individuals in need.
• Facilitates collaboration between law enforcement and support services, focusing on trauma informed care and substance use treatment.
• Contributes to community outreach initiatives, focusing on reducing stigma and increasing access to mental health services in the Township.
• Develops and implements mental health training for law enforcement officers, focusing on trauma-informed care and de-escalation.
• Conducts research on the intersection of mental health and law enforcement, focusing on trauma, substance use and mental health.
• Performs field work to proactively serve the homeless, mentally-ill adults, youth, and elderly; participate in homeless count efforts in the Township as they arise.
• Identifies emerging trends related to crimes and issues in the Township; develop and implement prevention and intervention program approaches; provide community education on current procedures and practices related to mental health, crime prevention, and intervention strategies.
• Provides support and guidance to law enforcement staff concerning victim advocacy, juvenile and adult crime, domestic violence, chemical dependency, and other services as needed.
• Offers support to police officers on citizen mental health concerns, substance use, and trauma-based issues.
• Performs welfare checks with police officers, as needed.
• Reports to the Police Chief or designee on the program's progress and impact.
• Compiles and analyzes data on the effectiveness of the embedded police clinician program with a focus on reducing recidivism and improving outcomes for individuals m crisis.
• Represents/serves as liaison on committees, outside organizations, and at staff subcommittees; coordinate community services activities within and outside of the organization as needed.
• Collaborates with Child Protective Services and Adult Protective Services as needed.
• Makes presentations to the Township Board, community groups and outside agencies, as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS – KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Graduation from a college or university with a master's degree in Psychology, Counseling or Social Work.
• State of Michigan license for Psychologist, Counselor or Social Worker is required; full license preferred; employees with a limited license must be able to secure outside supervision on their own.
• Minimum of two years in the delivery of behavioral health services.
• Must possess a current, valid Michigan Driver's License with a driving history that does not create liability concerns; which includes, but is not limited to, convictions for reckless driving, careless driving, suspended license, or convictions involving drinking and impaired driving.
• Police clearance required; must pass a public safety background check.
• Experience in trauma informed care required with certifications preferred.
• Experience treating individuals who have dual diagnosis.
• Prior experience with case management, advocacy, and exposure to behavioral health in the legal system highly desirable.
• Ability to create, analyze and interpret reports and data and to maintain accurate records.
• Ability to clearly communicate with individuals m need of services, as well as family members and police personnel.
• Ability to work independently, with an emphasis on prioritization and self-motivation.
• Ability to develop partnership and collaborations.
• Ability to analyze problems and present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form.
• Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner and to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
• Ability to assist individuals and personnel outside of businesses hours when emergency situations arise.
