Job summary

The North Dakota Office of Attorney General is seeking an experienced attorney to prosecute criminal cases in state court and to provide co-chair support to county state's attorneys. The role includes drafting pleadings, appearing at hearings, and handling appeals with travel as needed.

Responsibilities also cover providing legal guidance to the BCI and Offender Registration, teaching criminal law courses at the Law Enforcement Training Academy in Bismarck, and participating in state committees.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice law in North Dakota or imminent admission to the North Dakota Bar.
• 3+ years prosecutorial experience preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and strong legal research skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with diverse stakeholders.
• Strong time management and organization abilities.

Responsibilities

• Prosecute criminal cases in state court and provide co-chair assistance to county prosecutors when requested.
• Draft pleadings, attend court hearings, and litigate cases through trial and appeals.
• Travel to attend hearings and provide legal advice to the BCI and Offender Registration on sex offender rules.
• Teach criminal law classes at the Law Enforcement Training Academy and BCI investigations courses.
• Represent the Office on statutory committees and participate in related duties.
