Duties

During their careers, special agents carry out assignments in investigations and protection, often at multiple duty stations across the U.S. and abroad. Duties include:

1. Providing protection for various protectees.
2. Conducting criminal investigations related to financial obligations of the United States.
3. Planning and implementing security designs for National Special Security Events.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Possess a current valid driver's license.
• Carry and use a firearm; maintaining firearm proficiency is mandatory.
• Be at least 21 years old at application and less than 37 years old at the time of receiving a conditional offer, unless prior federal law enforcement service applies. Veterans' preference applicants must receive a conditional offer before age 40.
• Obtain and retain a Top Secret Clearance.
• Uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular; corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye.
• Hearing loss must not exceed 25 decibels in either ear across specified frequencies.
• Undergo drug testing prior to appointment and randomly during employment.
• Complete 13 weeks of training at FLETC in Glynco, GA, and 18 weeks of specialized training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD.
• Sign a mobility agreement to accept assignments anywhere within the U.S. and abroad.
• Register with the Selective Service System if required by law.
