Duties

During their careers, special agents perform investigations and protection duties, often being assigned to multiple duty stations across the U.S. and abroad. Responsibilities include:

• Providing protection for various protectees.
• Conducting criminal investigations related to the financial obligations of the United States.
• Planning and implementing security for National Special Security Events.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Possess a current valid driver's license.
• Carry and use a firearm; maintaining firearm proficiency is mandatory.
• Be at least 21 years old at application and less than 37 at the time of receiving a conditional job offer, unless prior federal law enforcement service applies. Applicants with veteran's preference must receive a conditional offer before age 40 to proceed.
• Obtain and retain a Top Secret Clearance.
• Have uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular, and corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye.
• Hearing must not exceed 25 decibels in either ear in key frequency ranges.
• Submit to drug testing before appointment and participate in random testing during employment.
• Complete 13 weeks of intensive training at FLETC in Glynco, GA, and 18 weeks of specialized training at James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD.
• Sign a mobility agreement accepting assignments anywhere within the U.S. and overseas.
• Register with the Selective Service System if required by law.
