Duties

Special agents carry out investigations and protection assignments, often at multiple duty stations across the U.S. and abroad. Responsibilities include:

• Providing protection for various protectees.
• Conducting criminal investigations related to financial obligations of the United States.
• Planning and implementing security designs for National Special Security Events.

Minimum Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Possess a current valid driver's license.
• Carry and use a firearm; firearm proficiency must be maintained.
• Be at least 21 years old at application and under 37 at the time of receiving a conditional offer, unless previous federal law enforcement service qualifies you for age exceptions. Applicants with veteran's preference must receive a conditional offer before age 40.
• Obtain and retain a Top Secret Clearance.
• Uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular, corrected to 20/20 or better in each eye.
• Hearing loss must not exceed 25 decibels in either ear in specified frequency ranges.
• Submit to pre-employment drug testing and ongoing random testing.
• Complete 13 weeks of intensive training at FLETC in Glynco, GA, and 18 weeks of specialized training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD.
• Sign a mobility agreement to accept assignments anywhere in the U.S. and abroad.
• Register with the Selective Service System or be exempt, if applicable.
