Duties

During their careers, special agents carry out assignments in investigations and protection, potentially at multiple duty stations across the U.S. and abroad. Duties include:

• Providing protection for various protectees.
• Conducting criminal investigations related to the financial obligations of the United States.
• Planning and implementing security designs for National Special Security Events.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Possess a valid driver's license.
• Carry and use a firearm; firearm proficiency is mandatory.
• Be at least 21 years old at application and less than 37 at the time of receiving a conditional job offer, unless previous federal law enforcement service qualifies for special provisions. Applicants with veteran's preference must receive a conditional offer before age 40.
• Obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance.
• Uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular, corrected to 20/20 or better in each eye.
• Hearing loss must not exceed 25 decibels in either ear in specified frequency ranges.
• Undergo drug testing prior to appointment and random testing during employment.
• Complete 13 weeks of intensive training at FLETC in Glynco, GA, and 18 weeks of specialized training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD.
• Sign a mobility agreement to accept assignments nationwide and overseas.
• Register with the Selective Service System or be exempt if male and born after December 31, 1959.
