Job Description:

Job Summary

Performs duties of a University Police Officer. Responsible for the criminal investigation division.

Authority and Accountability

Direct report to the Field Operation Commander.

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Possess a valid Maryland non-commercial class C or equivalent driver’s license.
  • Possess a current police officer certification by the MPTC.
  • Must be a current Sergeant.
  • Must have a minimum of one year in grade.
  • Must be detail oriented and have excellent interpersonal, customer service, organization and planning, prioritization, problem solving, follow through, time management, and oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be flexible and possess the ability to successfully handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and work well under pressure independently and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of police operations, community policing, criminal investigation, and crime prevention; interact well with diverse university community, must demonstrate strong leadership and develop positive and productive work relationships.
  • Must be well versed in the accreditation process.
  • Must be proficient in emergency preparedness, the National Incident Management System and Incident Command System

Preferred Qualifications

  • University policing knowledge or experience
  • Willingness to be available for on call status

Additional Job Information:

The position is a full-time, non-exempt state role with comprehensive benefits.
