Job summary

The Oregon Department of Justice is seeking a Criminal Intelligence Specialist (Research Analyst 1) to join the ACISS team in Salem. You will gather, evaluate, collate, analyze information to support investigations and provide law enforcement with timely intelligence.

Responsibilities include handling research requests, maintaining access to data sources, coordinating statewide conferences, and contributing to special projects.

Qualifications

  • College coursework in business or technical report writing and quantitative analysis.
  • Six quarter units in computer concepts and microcomputer applications such as word-processing, spread sheet and database.
  • Pass a computerized criminal history and background checks; Oregon driver's license required.

Responsibilities

  • Respond and track law enforcement research requests; compile information in response to requests.
  • Provide analytical support for investigative and prosecutorial needs as directed.
  • Maintain access for the Division to multiple criminal intelligence data sources; manage the ACISS file system.
  • Coordinate statewide organized crime conferences, criminal intelligence courses and seminars.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.

Job Description

Are you looking to put your critical thinking skills to use every day? As a Criminal Intelligence Specialist (Research Analyst 1) with the Oregon Department of Justice, Criminal Justice Division, you will work closely with law enforcement and public safety agencies to consistently compile, evaluate, collate, analyze information, and ensure effectiveness for our state’s Analytical & Criminal Investigative Services Section (ACISS). The Watch Center provides deconfliction and law enforcement to support investigations.

In this role you will provide law enforcement agencies with information base, research and analysis, and to facilitate criminal investigations through the collection, evaluation, collation, analysis and dissemination of information.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Respond and track law enforcement research requests; collect and compile information in response to requests.

Required Experience And Special Requirements
  • College-level coursework that includes at least three quarter units in business or technical report writing, three quarter units in quantitative analysis or statistical principles, and six quarter units in computer concepts and microcomputer applications such as word-processing, spread sheet and database.
OR
  • One year of experience in work that included gathering data from various sources and using software applications to retrieve, edit or tabulate data into forms or reports.
  • Must pass a computerized criminal history and driver and motor vehicle services check, as well as clear a comprehensive background investigation and employment check (Criminal Justice Division and FBI). Adverse background data may be grounds for immediate disqualification.
AND
  • Must have and maintain an Oregon driver's license.

  • Experience compiling data to support investigations.
  • Experience using the computer to search for and verify information.
  • Experience independently gathering, compiling, and analyzing fragmented data to derive substantive meaning using statistical, associative, and deductive methods.
  • Experience identifying and reporting trends based on your research.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Intelligence Cycle and Process.
