Job summary

The Public Defender Division of the Committee for Public Counsel Services in Massachusetts seeks Trial Attorneys to provide criminal defense representation in multiple offices across the Commonwealth. You will represent indigent clients in District and Superior Courts, handling misdemeanors and felonies as assigned.

New attorneys enter a comprehensive training program, with ongoing legal education, and you will conduct investigations, interview clients, prepare motions, and advocate zealously

Qualifications

• Commitment to zealous advocacy for indigent clients.

Responsibilities

• Interviewing clients.
• Arraignment and bail advocacy.
• Legal research and writing.
• Pretrial investigations including visiting crime scenes and interviewing witnesses.
• Preparing and arguing pretrial motions and memoranda.
• Dispositional investigations and advocacy.
• Jury and bench trials of criminal cases.
• Representation of clients in interlocutory proceedings.
• Collaborating with private counsel on cases as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.
