Alber Firm P.C. is expanding its Maryland practice and seeks an experienced Criminal Defense Attorney to join the team.

This role offers significant courtroom responsibility and a potential path to a State Managing Partner or Regional Managing Partner as the Maryland practice grows. The successful candidate will have active Maryland Bar admission (3+ years) and strong first-chair trial experience in serious felonies, with the ability to manage cases independently and negotiate effectively with

Qualifications

• Maryland Bar admission for minimum 3 years.
• Significant Maryland criminal defense experience.
• First-chair trial experience required, especially felonies.
• Experience handling cases from intake to resolution.
• Strong courtroom advocacy, motion practice, and writing skills.
• Experience with serious felonies: violent crimes, drugs, weapons, DUI/DWI, theft, sex offenses.
• Ability to manage a caseload independently.
• Strong negotiation with prosecutors, judges, and opposing counsel.
• Solo practitioners and small criminal-defense practices are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Practice independently while taking on increasing responsibility within Alber's Maryland expansion.
• Alber provides centralized technology, administrative infrastructure, workflow and operational support.
• Candidates may retain existing clients and practices.
• Open to lawyers located in Montgomery, Howard, Anne Arundel, Baltimore County, Baltimore City, Prince George's and surrounding MD jurisdictions.

This is an opportunity for an attorney who wants significant courtroom responsibility and the potential to take on a State Managing Partner or Regional Managing Partner role as our Maryland practice develops.

Qualifications

• Active Maryland Bar admission for a minimum of 3 years
• Significant criminal defense experience in Maryland courts
• First-chair trial experience required, particularly felony matters
• Experience handling cases independently from intake through resolution
• Strong courtroom advocacy, motion practice, legal research and writing skills
• Experience with serious felony matters, including violent crimes, drug offenses, weapons offenses, DUI/DWI, theft, sex offenses and/or other complex criminal cases
• Ability to manage a caseload independently and effectively
• Strong negotiation skills and experience dealing with prosecutors, judges and opposing counsel
• Excellent client communication and case-management skills
• Solo practitioners and attorneys from small criminal-defense practices are especially encouraged to apply

The attorney will have the opportunity to practice independently while taking on increasing responsibility within Alber's Maryland expansion. Alber provides centralized technology, administrative infrastructure, workflow and operational support, allowing attorneys to focus on practicing law and serving clients.

Candidates do not need to bring a book of business. Existing clients and practices may remain with the attorney.
