Job summary

Millar Law, PLLC in Gilbert, Arizona, is seeking an Associate Criminal Defense Attorney to join our growing criminal defense practice. The attorney will represent clients in misdemeanor and felony matters and manage cases from initial appearance through resolution, including litigation and trial.

The ideal candidate has a Juris Doctor and an active Arizona license, strong research and writing skills, and proven negotiation and courtroom capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in Arizona and in good standing with the State Bar of Arizona.

Responsibilities

  • Represent clients in misdemeanor and felony criminal cases throughout Arizona.
  • Handle cases from initial appearance through final resolution.
  • Appear regularly in municipal, justice, and superior courts.
  • Conduct pretrial conferences, evidentiary hearings, settlement conferences, and trials.
  • Review police reports, body-worn camera footage, forensic evidence, and other discovery.
  • Identify legal and factual issues and develop effective defense strategies.
  • Draft and argue motions, including motions to suppress and other substantive pretrial motions.
  • Negotiate with prosecutors and advocate for favorable resolutions.
  • Prepare clients and witnesses for hearings and trial.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients regarding their cases.
  • Work collaboratively with the firm's attorneys, paralegal, and support staff.
  • Maintain organized case files, deadlines, and court calendars.

Millar Law is a growing criminal defense firm serving clients throughout Arizona. We are seeking an Associate Criminal Defense Attorney to join our team and represent clients in a wide range of misdemeanor and felony matters.

Tired of overwhelming caseloads? Millar Law is looking for an attorney who is confident in the courtroom, communicates well with clients, and genuinely enjoys criminal defense. This position offers substantial hands-on experience and the opportunity to manage cases from initial representation through resolution, including litigation and trial.

Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

  • Criminal law experience strongly preferred
  • Courtroom and litigation experience preferred
  • Strong legal research, writing, negotiation, and oral advocacy skills
  • Excellent communication and client-service skills
  • Ability to independently manage a caseload while working as part of a team
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Professional judgment and a commitment to providing high-quality representation

Prior experience as a criminal defense attorney, prosecutor, public defender, or military veteran is particularly valuable.

Required qualifications:
  • Active membership in the State Bar of Arizona, in good standing, by the start date.
  • At least two years of criminal litigation experience, including criminal defense, prosecution, or public defense.
  • Experience reviewing discovery, evaluating evidence, negotiating resolutions, and appearing in court.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Ability to manage an assigned caseload, meet deadlines, and keep clients informed.
  • Sound judgment, professionalism, and a commitment to protecting clients’ rights.
  • Ability to attend court appearances and client meetings throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area and Arizona.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Three or more years of criminal litigation experience.
  • Experience handling Arizona DUI, misdemeanor, and felony cases.
  • Jury trial experience, particularly as lead counsel.
  • Experience litigating suppression motions and evidentiary hearings.
  • Familiarity with Maricopa County Superior Court and local municipal and justice courts.
  • Compensation: $130,000–$200,000 annually, depending on experience, demonstrated litigation skills, and the responsibilities the attorney is prepared to assume.
  • Former Prosecutor or Military Veteran
