Job summary

City of Fort Wayne is seeking a Crime Analyst – Crime Gun to collect, analyze, and interpret firearms-related data. You will work with local, state, and federal partners to identify patterns, develop intelligence reports, and support investigations in a grant-funded role.

The ideal candidate has a relevant bachelor’s degree, 2–3 years of crime analysis experience, and the ability to pass necessary background clearances. This is a full-time, on-site position in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field.
  • Two to three years of experience in criminology, crime analysis, research analysis, statistical analysis in law enforcement or related training/experience.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to pass required background clearances (NCIC/NIBIN/IDACS/FBI-CJIS/ATF).

Responsibilities

  • Analyze NIBIN leads and provide actionable intelligence to investigators
  • Create link analysis charts and reports to identify connections within complex investigations
  • Analyze firearm trends, criminal activity, gang structures, violent offenders, and sources of crime guns
  • Conduct open-source and covert social media research to assist in identifying criminal networks
  • Prepare and present analytical reports and findings during CGIC meetings
  • Work with FWPD, ATF, ICGTF, and other law enforcement partners to share intelligence and disrupt criminal activity
  • Monitor cameras, databases, and live information feeds while supporting ongoing investigations

Crime Analyst - Crime Gun

Monday-Friday | 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. | Grant-Funded Position

Do you have experience in criminal justice, crime analysis, research, or data analysis - and the ability to turn complex information into actionable intelligence? Your work will help investigators identify connections, track crime guns and violent offenders, and disrupt criminal activity in our community.

What You'll Do

You'll collect, analyze, and interpret crime data related to firearms and violent offenders. Working with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners, you'll identify patterns and connections, develop intelligence reports, and provide investigators with information that helps move cases forward.

Key Responsibilities

What You Bring: Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or a related field
  • Two to three years of experience in criminology, crime analysis, research analysis, statistical analysis in law enforcement, or a combination of relevant training and experience preferred
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, interpret, and explain complex crime data
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to pass required local, NCIC, NIBIN, IDACS, FBI-CJIS, and ATF background clearances
Preferred Certifications
  • Valid Indiana driver's license if operating a City vehicle
  • Ability to obtain IDACS/NCIC certification within 90 days of hire
Technical Skills & Knowledge
  • Crime analysis, research methods, statistical analysis, and intelligence gathering
  • Ability to identify firearm trafficking patterns, straw purchasers, multi-gun purchases, and other suspicious firearm activity
  • NIBIN procedures and firearm-specific crime data analysis
  • Statistical and analytical software, including Stata, SPSS, and ArcGIS
  • Social media mining and social network analysis
  • Integration of criminal, geographic, and demographic data to identify crime patterns and trends
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain findings and testify professionally
  • Spanish or Burmese language skills preferred
Important Work Conditions

Work is primarily performed in an office environment and requires extended periods of sitting and computer use. Occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds may be required.

This position may require travel for training within Indiana and nationally. The employee must be able to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and maintain objectivity when analyzing sensitive law enforcement information.

This position is grant-funded. Continued employment may depend on the availability of grant funding, and the position may be discontinued if funding expires, is reduced, or is terminated.
