Job summary

California Department of Justice is seeking a Crime Analyst II to plan and conduct statewide DNA sample collection training for law enforcement personnel, evaluate eligibility for DNA submissions, and manage the state’s DNA sample collection kit inventory at the Richmond facility.

The role is based in Contra Costa County with a standard 8am–5pm schedule. Hybrid telework may be available for eligible CA residents, subject to supervision and program needs.

Job Description And Duties

Under the direction of a Criminalist Supervisor, the Crime Analyst (CA) II plans, coordinates, and conducts statewide DNA sample collection training for law enforcement personnel under California Penal Code Section 296 and related codes for inclusion of the resultant DNA profiles in the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS); performs complex identification duties to determine offender and offense eligibility for DNA sample submission and database entry; evaluates eligibility for expungement of DNA samples and profiles; participates in special projects independently or as part of a team for purposes of increasing the accuracy of DNA sample submissions and improving overall DNA sample collection practices statewide, and manages the State’s supply of DNA sample collection kits.

• Please note that all new to state employees will be given the minimum salary of the classification. For current state employees and/or those with reinstatement rights, your salary will be determined in accordance with the applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
• Effective July 1, 2025, state employees are subject to temporary wage reductions in exchange for Personal Leave Program (PLP) accruals. The specific rate and hours earned were negotiated and agreed upon by each bargaining unit. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location, as indicated on their duty statement, at their own expense.
