Job description
This position is designated as a safety/security sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.
JOB OBJECTIVE:To analyze police information reports in order to identify crime trends and recommend corrective action.
Analyzes daily offense and arrest reports to identify crime patterns, including suspect characteristics and demographic information as they relate to certain crimes.
Prepares monthly, quarterly, semiannual, and annual statistical reports and various correspondence for management.
Communicates crime trend, suspect characteristic, and intelligence data to operational components of the Police Department.
Inputs data into computer program systems to prepare reports, graphs and maps for presentations to management concerning crime trends and necessary corrective action.
Recommends staffing patterns to management in order to anticipate and combat criminal activity.
Enters crime data into a computer using mapping and spreadsheet software.
Prepares Special Information Bulletins and Directed Patrol Requests using crime statistical data; disseminates information to appropriate personnel.
Contacts governmental agencies to gather criminal statistical data and compare crime analysis methods.
Researches federal and state laws and local ordinances; responds to special crime information requests.
Operates a computer with database, spreadsheet (Microsoft excel), and word processing software to generate correspondence, memoranda, PowerPoint presentations and reports.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:None.
These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Statistics, Mathematics, Business Administration, or a related area and two (2) years of experience in statistical research, data analysis, mapping, or a related area; one (1) year of demonstrated advanced-level Microsoft excel experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be available to work outside normal working hours to include nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
