Job summary

The Student Conservation Association, Inc in Pittsburgh seeks a motivated high school student for a part-time role blending environmental education and service projects. The program runs at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History for education hours and at the SCA office on Saturdays for service projects.

Schedule: Oct 5, 2026 – Nov 21, 2026; Tue/Thu 4:00pm-6:30pm, Sat 10:00am-3:30pm with unpaid lunch. $11/hour; housing not provided; priority given to Pittsburgh Community Summer participants.

Qualifications

• High school student ages 14–18; able to legally work in the US.
• Availability Tue/Thu afternoons and Saturday mornings as scheduled.
• Willingness to engage in outdoor conservation activities in various weather.

Responsibilities

• Actively engage in environmental education activities with SCA/Carnegie Museum staff.
• Participate in environmental service projects: tree care, habitat restoration, trailwork.
• Support program activities and collaborate with team members during sessions.

Job description

Position Summary

This position is a blend of hands on environmental education (50%) and service projects (50%). Afternoon, after-school sessions will be predominately environmental education based at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History; Saturday sessions will meet at the SCA office and will be predominately environmental service projects. This position intended to be an extension of the Pittsburgh Community Summer program, and priority is given to applicants who have successfully participated as members or leaders in that program.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Actively engage in environmental education activities, lead by SCA staff, Carnegie Museum Staff, and third party Staff. Actively engage in environmental service projects led by SCA staff, Carnegie Museum Staff, other third party staff. These projects include tree care and maintenance, habitat restoration, and trailwork.

Required Qualifications

Current high school student between the ages of 14 - 18; Participants should have prior outdoor conservation experience, a desire to work outside in all weather conditions, and willingness to engage in team building activities. Must have the ability to legally work in the US. Ability to be at the CMNH in Oakland, by 4:30pm on Tuesday and Thursdays. Ability to be at the SCA office in the Hill District by 10:00am on Saturdays
