Job summary

Hattiesburgms seeks a Crew Member in the Transportation & Engineering department, Traffic Maintenance division. The role pays $15.00/hour and involves assisting with roadway signage, installations, and traffic control.

You will help implement road closures, monitor safety, track supplies, and coordinate with other departments during events, with after-hours and weekend duties as needed.

Qualifications

Job description

Position: Crew Member

Department: Transportation & Engineering

Division: Traffic Maintenance

Rate of Pay: $15.00/hour

Representative Duties:

• Assist in the regular maintenance, repair, appearance and installation of roadway signage, poles and markings related to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
• Implement road and/or lane closures for roadway repairs, improvement projects, special events and other applicable situations.
• Ensure work is conducted in a safe and orderly manner.
• Track the use and location of supplies and equipment.
• Maintain record of work performed, including active and completed work orders.
• Work with applicable departments and parties to perform necessary tasks related to traffic control for special events, such as parades and festivals.
• Subject to after-hour and weekend duties, which may be unplanned, to execute special events or address incidents and concerns of traffic control and safety.

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Experience in operating hand tools including, but not limited to, power drills, augers, and post-hole diggers.
• Ability to properly navigate and operate a pull-behind trailer.
• Ability to effectively understand, follow, and communicate written and oral instructions.
• Ability to professionally interact with supervisors, coworkers, employees, and the public.
• Possess mobility to work in field conditions including substantial heights and all weather conditions.
• Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and climb to perform work; lift, move and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, and heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.
• Ability to work in close proximity to active traffic.
• Willingness to work after hours and on call as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid Mississippi Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• IMSA Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Technician Certification OR completion of certification course within the first 12 months of employment.
