Crew Leader - Production 2nd Shift (starting pay $18.00)

This position supervises a team but does not directly manage employees. The Production Crew Leader is responsible for planning, preparing, and executing daily scheduled work orders in the production barns while leading a crew of up to 30 employees. They must have a comprehensive understanding of all policies and procedures related to Metrolina Greenhouses and the production barn lines. They are responsible for teaching, training, and coaching employees in all positions within the production line to make them versatile.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up, assess, and troubleshoot machinery and equipment along the production line, reporting any malfunctions to the Production Manager.
  • Ensure safety policies and operational processes are always followed.
  • Guide teams of up to 30 employees throughout the production line, providing training, guidance, and oversight to maintain quality and quantity standards.
  • Maintain the quality of all materials used in production, including trays, pots, soils, plants, hangers, tags, and labels.
  • Seek opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge relevant to the role, including leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and team management.
  • Collaborate with your manager to establish clear development goals aligned with the organization’s objectives.
  • Ensure accuracy and adherence to protocols in all production-related documentation and data logging.
  • Communicate regularly with the Production Manager about progress and setbacks, proposing improvements based on production knowledge.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to give constructive feedback to crews.
  • Proficient in using technology such as tablets/IPADS.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Basic math skills required.
  • Ability to adapt to different job situations daily.
  • Problem-solving, troubleshooting, and solution-seeking abilities.
  • Detail-oriented and accurate.
  • Willingness to be a team player.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1 year of supervisory experience.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Six months of experience working on a greenhouse production line.
Job Setting & Physical Demands

This position is primarily outdoors but may require working indoors for administrative tasks. Must be able to work in outdoor elements, including dust and allergens. The role involves standing, sitting, squatting, bending, reaching, and twisting regularly. Must operate machinery, including driving a scooter, and lift up to 35 pounds consistently.
