Job summary

Collier County is seeking a supervisor to lead a crew in Water Division projects, operating equipment and performing maintenance tasks. You will coordinate daily activities, assign work, and ensure timely completion while adhering to safety protocols and traffic control requirements.

Responsibilities include overseeing water utilities maintenance, coordinating locates, and managing supplies and Labor for projects.

• Leads a crew of workers engaged in operating equipment and performing maintenance work associated with various projects within the Water
• Leads a crew of workers in operating equipment and performing maintenance work associated with various projects within Water Division of the County.
• Provides direction, training, and assistance to employees; coordinates daily work activities; organizes and prioritizes workload; makes work assignments and evaluates work; monitors status of work; troubleshoots problem situations.
• Assists in ensuring adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations; coordinates activities to maintain safety and traffic control at work sites, including flagging of traffic and setup of safety cones, barricades, and road/warning signs; reports accidents, injuries, and other incidents.
• Assists in coordinating, prioritizing, scheduling, and overseeing projects; reviews or issues work orders; provides input on special projects; assists in determining and coordinating necessary equipment, materials, and manpower to conduct projects; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; dispatches crew members, vehicles, or equipment to work sites as needed; reports damage/vandalism, potentially hazardous/dangerous situations, or other problems to supervisor; responds to problems or emergency situations.
• Monitor work conducted by contractors; inspects work to ensure quality and compliance with terms of contracts.
• Oversees and assists in performing various tasks involving water utilities maintenance and water distribution systems projects; schedules, coordinates, and conducts physical locates of utility services; coordinates maintenance, repair, and installation of water service lines/mains; replaces older/worn service lines with new upgraded service lines; installs new water main; installs, repairs, and replaces sample stations; installs, repairs or replaces flushing stations; monitors water quality; performs field testing of water samples; installs, repairs or replaces valves; coordinates rebuilding and maintenance of pumps and related components; restores roads, sidewalks, and other work sites to original condition after completion of work.
• Performs general/manual tasks associated with division projects; sharpens blades and replaces parts; climbs ladders; sets up or arranges equipment for special events/activities; lifts/moves furniture, equipment, and heavy materials; assists with cleanup following hurricanes, storms, or emergency situations.
• Responds to complaints and questions related to Water Division activities; research problems and provides information; formulates and initiates plan of action to correct problems/issues.
• Coordinates response to emergency calls; evaluates service calls and determines needed manpower, equipment, parts, and materials.
• Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with division projects.
• Perform general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment and tools in operable condition; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
• Monitors inventory levels of supplies and materials; ensures availability of adequate supplies, tools, and materials to conduct work activities; initiates requests for new/replacement materials; obtains competitive bids and price quotes.
• Performs administrative tasks; provides budgetary input; reviews logs/forms completed by staff members.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two (2) years of related experience.
• Fingerprinting required.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATES

• Must possess and maintain a valid Class 2 Water Distribution Operator license.
• Valid Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certification or obtain within six (6) months of hire.
• Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Intermediate Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) certification or obtain within six (6) months of hire.
• Asbestos Worker or Supervisor Certification within one (1) year of hire.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805.

• Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County’s Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident-by-incident basis.
