To help facilitate our expanding business, RMS Energy is currently seeking a Bus Crew Lead tojoin our dynamic and fast-growing team. This is a unique opportunity to further your experience working on electrical equipment in diverse locations across the United States, including power plants, hydroelectric dams, and other large industrial facilities. Our Bus Crew Lead leads crews through all project phases, including demolition, layout, equipment rigging, and welding tasks involving aluminum components such as rigid bus, enclosures, and termination boxes. This role is expected to interpret complex drawings, manage on-site safety and workflow, coordinate resources, and ensure compliance with project specifications and client standards.
Preferred Locations: Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa.
Responsibilities
- Conduct site walks, drawing reviews, LOTO reviews, and enforce PPE and safety protocols.
- Lead crews in all project phases, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Ensure personal and team compliance with all company and site requirements.
- Plan jobs: allocate labor, manage materials, and coordinate subcontractors.
- Perform and supervise field work, contributing to hands-on project success.
- Work effectively with crews, crafts, and regional staff.
- Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
- Interpret complex drawings and perform precise layout and measurements.
- Identify and secure required tools, test gear, and consumables.
- Supervise or perform rigging, lifting, setting, alignment, and fitting of equipment.
- Oversee and inspect welding tasks on aluminum components; ensure 6G-quality work.
- Inspect and sign off on daily reports and final job documentation.
- Perform daily equipment checks; address any safety issues or damage.
- Ensure timely submission of job documents, including JSA and timesheets.
- Safely operate and maintain company vehicles.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of field leadership in substation or bus installation; strong OSHA/PPE knowledge required.
- Experienced in weld inspection and qualification; signs off on final welds for client records.
- Skilled in rigging and industrial equipment handling.
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word for communication and reporting.
- Familiar with MV/HV electrical equipment and associated safety standards.
- Strong attention to detail to identify and resolve compliance issues.
Other Requirements
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test, periodic, unannounced random drug tests, and a pre-employment criminal background check.
- Must be willing to travel; minimum 75%.
- Must be able to drive daily to customer job sites and be available for periodic overnight travel.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours and overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays, and nights.
- Must be able to crawl, climb, stand, and lift up to 50 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Must complete annual safety training to remain compliant with company policies and safety regulations. Training may occasionally require travel outside the employee’s assigned state or region.
- Valid and current driver's license with a clean driving record.
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred.
- Eligibility for and capability to maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC card), facilitating access to secured job sites and regulated facilities.

Working Conditions
This job requires the ability to respond to 24/7 call-outs and to work extended hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. Work may be conducted outdoors in all weather conditions, near low-, medium-, and high-voltage equipment and heavy machinery, in areas with elevations in excess of 100 feet, and confined spaces, adhering to strict safety protocols. Exposure to loud noises from machinery is common, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). This job involves the risk of electrical shock. This job requires frequent travel between RMS facilities and customer sites.
Physical Requirements
The position demands physical mobility to navigate uneven surfaces, the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, fine motor skills for handling small components and tools, and the capability to climb ladders and work at heights. Sustained physical effort, including standing, bending, pushing, digging, pulling, kneeling, crawling, and reaching for extended periods, is required. Good vision, including color vision and depth perception, and the ability to hear alarms and communications in noisy environments are essential. Additionally, proficiency in speaking, hearing, reading, and typing in English is required for effective communication and documentation.
