Description
Position Summary

The Construction Crew Member works as part of the Weatherization team to increase the energy efficiency, health, safety, and comfort of homes that qualify for program-funded services. The employee works collaboratively with the Crew Chief and other members of the Weatherization team to complete assigned construction, weatherization, retrofit, and energy conservation activities safely, accurately, and efficiently.

Every member of the team plays an important role in achieving the mission and goals of the Weatherization Program and RECAP. The Construction Crew Member is expected to complete assigned tasks, meet established deadlines, follow program guidelines and safety requirements, and contribute to a professional and productive team environment.

Essential Functions
  • Install and assist with weatherization measures, including plumbing, carpentry, insulation, heating, electrical work, blower door testing, air sealing, and other approved energy conservation measures.
  • Address health and safety issues identified within dwellings in accordance with applicable program requirements and established procedures.
  • Perform necessary calculations, measurements, and documentation related to work completed in homes.
  • Complete necessary repairs, retrofits, and weatherization measures as assigned.
  • Work as part of a team to complete assigned projects, meet program goals, and meet established deadlines.
  • Set up job sites and materials upon arrival at each assigned location.
  • Perform weatherization and construction measures as assigned by the Crew Chief.
  • Assist the Crew Chief with required testing, inspections, measurements, and documentation.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, materials, and work areas in a safe, clean, and organized condition.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with clients regarding work being performed in their homes.
  • Follow instructions and directives provided by the Crew Chief and Director of Weatherization.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Crew Chief or Director of Weatherization.
Compliance Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area, job site, and work vehicle.
  • Maintain accurate daily time allocation sheets and other required records.
  • Comply with established health and safety standards while performing weatherization, construction, and retrofit activities.
  • Follow applicable program guidelines, work procedures, safety requirements, and directives provided by the Crew Chief and Director of Weatherization.
  • Ensure accurate completion of calculations, measurements, reports, time records, and required documentation related to work performed in homes.
  • Properly use, maintain, and safeguard tools, equipment, vehicles, materials, and personal protective equipment.
  • Follow all applicable agency policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client and agency information encountered during the performance of job duties.
  • Report safety concerns, property damage, equipment issues, or other work-related concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Perform work in accordance with applicable weatherization program requirements and funding guidelines.
Physical Requirements

While performing this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, reach, handle objects, tools or controls, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, work in tight or confined spaces, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral perception, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. This job requires consistent punctuality and attendance at assigned job sites and includes sites in Orange and Rockland Counties.

Work Environment

Work is performed primarily at residential job sites and may involve exposure to inclement weather, varying temperatures, dust, dirt, debris, insulation, construction materials, and noise.

The position may require working in attics, crawl spaces, basements, confined spaces, and other areas with limited accessibility.

The position may require exposure to electronic equipment, including computers, printers, fax machines, copy machines, and cleaning equipment.

If the position requires use of a motor vehicle, duties may include driving on city streets, local roads, and highways, with exposure to inclement weather and traffic. Employees are required to take all precautions and follow all applicable laws, agency vehicle policies, and safety procedures while working in these environments.

Disclosures
Driving Disclosure:

This position requires travel between agency locations and assigned residential job sites, including locations in Orange and Rockland Counties. Employees who operate an agency vehicle or drive on behalf of RECAP must maintain a valid New York State driver's license and comply with applicable traffic laws and RECAP's vehicle and safety policies. RECAP may verify driving credentials and/or driving history when required by the duties of the position, agency policy, insurance requirements, or applicable law.

Physical Demands Disclosure:

This position involves physical construction and weatherization activities and requires the ability to perform the essential physical functions identified in this job description, including working in confined spaces and lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.

Safety:

The Construction Crew Member is responsible for following all applicable safety requirements, weatherization program guidelines, agency safety procedures, and supervisory instructions. Personal protective equipment must be used as required for the work being performed.

Client Home and Worksite:

This position requires employees to enter and perform work inside clients' homes and other residential properties. Employees are expected to conduct themselves professionally, respectfully, and safely while working in client homes and to protect client property and confidential information.
