Job summary

City of Winston-Salem is seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to manage field crews and oversee maintenance of municipal vehicles and equipment. Under immediate supervision, you will organize tasks, assign crews and ensure efficient operations.

Responsibilities include supervising crew activities, performing minor repairs, keeping vehicle records, preparing reports and training staff. A valid Class B CDL upon hire is required and work is performed on-site in Winston-Salem, NC.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of principles and practices of operations and servicing trucks and related equipment.
• Ability to follow oral and written directions; mechanical aptitude, ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.
• Ability to assign and supervise the work of others and the ability to prepare simple reports.
• Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Drivers License upon hire.

Under immediate supervision, performs semi-skilled maintenance, oversees crew in the filed and does related work as required.

Supervises and participates in the work of unskilled and semi-skilled workers, Vehicle Operators and Sr. Equipment Operators. Oversees large crews in the collection of brush, leaves and bulky items. Provides instruction to crews, makes and adjusts assignments and inspect work in progress. Does minor vehicle and equipment repairs in the field and provides daily inspections and maintenance of a large number of vehicles. Maintains vehicle records and requisitions necessary parts and materials. Prepares reports, trains and instructs personnel, assist with evaluations and disciplinary actions.

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diplomas and considerable experience in semi-skilled maintenance and operation of motorized vehicles and equipment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

General knowledge of principles and practices of operations and servicing trucks and related equipment; general knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary to the proper operations of various vehicles and equipment. Ability to follow oral and written directions; mechanical aptitude, ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment; ability to assign and supervise the work of others and the ability to prepare simple reports.

Physical Requirements:
