The Crew Chief (Archaeology) provides cultural resource services for an archaeological monitoring project for a federal client. This role involves ensuring compliance with federal guidelines while monitoring shoreline erosion protection repairs. The successful candidate will be required to meet the professional qualifications standards found in the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology and Historic Preservation.

Travel: Travel will be required for fieldwork within Marshall County, OK.

Compensation:
This pay band reflects Chloeta’s good faith estimate of the range it expects to offer; Chloeta reserves the right to alter this range if business circumstances change.

$30.14 - $33.48 per hour

Non-Exempt

Duties/Responsibilities

1. Conducts on-site archaeological monitoring of shoreline erosion protection repairs at Texoma Lake to ensure compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
2. Identifies and appropriately manages cultural materials, human remains, or other inadvertent discoveries during field activities in accordance with NAGPRA and federal regulations.
3. Collaborates with the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR), project managers, and tribal representatives as necessary.
4. Maintains detailed field notes and prepares a comprehensive Archaeological Monitoring Report, including photographs, maps, and documentation of findings.
5. Ensures all work is confined to the defined Area of Potential Effect (APE) and avoids any adverse effects to cultural resources.
6. Adheres to the Corps of Engineers Safety and Health Requirements Manual (EM 385-1-1) and other applicable safety protocols.

Required Skills/Abilities

1. Familiarity with the cultural history of Oklahoma and tribal coordination processes.
2. GIS proficiency for mapping and documenting archaeological findings.
3. Demonstrated experience with preparing archaeological monitoring reports, including compliance with Section 106 processes.
4. Knowledge of NAGPRA and relevant federal, state, and tribal cultural resource policies.
5. Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders and project team members.
6. Proficiency in archaeological survey and excavation methods, including identifying and recording artifacts in a variety of environmental conditions.
7. Ability to produce clear, detailed, and accurate reports that comply with Section 106 standards and other federal requirements.
8. Ability to handle disputes or differing opinions diplomatically, particularly when sensitive cultural materials or tribal interests are involved.
9. Respect for and understanding of tribal customs, cultural materials, and the significance of archaeological sites.
10. Capability to perform fieldwork in various terrains and weather conditions for extended periods.
11. Familiarity with field documentation tools like tablets or software for real-time data collection.

Education and Experience

Required: Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology; and

Required: Minimum of three years of supervisory field experience and analytical experience in cultural resource management or archaeological monitoring in general North American archaeology; and

Required: At least one year of full-time professional experience or equivalent specialized training in archaeological research, administration, or management; and

Required: Meet the professional qualifications standards found in the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology and Historic Preservation.

Preferred: Experience working on federal Department of Defense and/or National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)-mandated projects.

Physical Requirements

1. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
2. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, etc.
3. Lifting requirements – this position may be required to lift up to 30 pounds while conducting fieldwork.
4. Ability to drive to work sites within Marshall County, Oklahoma.
5. Ability to walk for moderate distances on varying trail terrains and uneven surfaces in all weather conditions. The work is primarily performed in forest and range environments in steep terrain where surfaces may be extremely uneven, rocky, covered with vegetation, etc. Temperatures vary from above 100 degrees F to below freezing. Risks include snake or insect bites, stings, falling and rolling materials.
