Job summary

Muddy Water Dredging is seeking a vessel operator responsible for the safe operation of a company-owned crew boat. The role includes directing daily onboard activities, operating engines and steering, and coordinating maintenance as needed.

The position requires a USCG Captain’s License Inland (uninspected passenger vessels), a valid TWIC Card, and at least three years of related experience. A 12-hour shift, 28/14 rotating schedule, and field-location duties apply.

Qualifications

  • Must hold USCG Captain’s License Inland for Uninspected Passenger Vessels.
  • Preferred USCG Master, 50 Gross Tons Inland.
  • Must have a valid TWIC Card.

Responsibilities

Role and Responsibilities

This position is accountable for safe operation of company owned crew boat and will direct the day-to-day operations as well as coordinate onboard activities including operating engines, steering, and maintaining and repairing the vessel.

  • Responsible for the safe keeping of the vessel assigned.
  • Responsible to record and report any maintenance issues to your supervisor.
  • Responsible for all housekeeping of the vessel.
  • Work a 12-hour shift, 28/14 rotating schedule from the required field location.
  • Must be able to step from the vessel to the dock.
  • Must be able to pull handle lines for docking and disembarking.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and climb to perform maintenance, minor repairs, and cleaning.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.
Qualifications and Education Requirements

The employee must have:

  • At a minimum – USCG – Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels Captain’s License; Inland.
  • Preferred – USCG – Master, 50 Gross Tons, Inland.
  • Must have a valid TWIC Card.
  • Minimum of three (3) years related experience.
  • Ability to comply with safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with little to no supervision.
  • Must be reliable and motivated.
  • Knowledge of operation of various types of marine equipment, tools, and devices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Competencies: stress management/composure, teamwork, results driven.
Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFD’s), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.

In addition, the employee must also be capable of:

  • Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
  • Standing, stooping, twisting, bending, crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting repetitively and/or for long periods of time.
  • Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work.
