Varo Bank is seeking a Head of Credit Strategy to own the design, pricing, and growth of consumer credit. You will set risk appetite, translate it into actionable guardrails, and lead policy across origination through collections.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of senior credit risk leadership at a major card issuer, consumer bank, or scaled fintech.
• Full credit lifecycle strategy ownership including originations, account management, portfolio reshape, and vintage performance.
• Deep data fluency with traditional bureaus, alternative data, and hands-on querying (SQL, Python).
• Executive and board presence to defend policy changes and risk strategies to C-suite, board, or regulators.
• Regulatory expertise within bank, ILC, or bank-partner environments.
• Experience expanding credit access, including thin-file/near-prime growth with solid unit economics.
• Strategic leadership across credit committees, team development, and P&L impact in consumer or small-business lending.

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain risk policy across origination to collections lifecycle.
• Lead credit design and underwriting logic for new products with compliant data strategies.
• Own vintage performance, delinquency trajectories, unit economics, and losses.
• Stand up early-warning indicators and champion/challenger testing.
• Adjust policy based on macro and portfolio conditions; present concise views to executives.
• Build and lead a high-performing credit strategy team and align with product reviews.
• Provide rigorous governance to preempt policy gaps before regulator review.
