Job summary

U.S. Bank is seeking a senior credit risk leader to guide strategy initiatives and coordinate risk programs. The role covers portfolios across Asset Based Finance, Equipment Finance, and Mortgage Warehouse Lending, with emphasis on risk appetite, policy, and governance.

You’ll lead cross-functional teams and deliver assessments that inform senior decision-makers. You will develop market views and proactive risk management solutions, while maintaining strong relationships with Credit Strategy,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience.
  • Typically more than 10 years of applicable experience.
  • Understanding of basic credit risk management concepts and related underwriting.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, financial services, and regulatory trends.
  • Broad understanding of credit risk processes and governance programs.
  • Strong analytical, process facilitation, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work from a U.S. Bank location three or more days per week.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office and data analysis tools.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a thought leader, coordinator, and implementation manager for key credit risk initiatives.
  • Manage portfolios for industries and products across U.S. Bank (Asset Based Finance, Equipment Finance, Mortgage Warehouse Lending).
  • Identify emerging risks and manage risk appetite through risk limits and policies.
  • Develop portfolio construction and asset allocation strategies.
  • Manage concentration, correlation, and specialized portfolio risks.
  • Develop proactive industry viewpoints, solutions, and risk-management recommendations.
  • Direct, monitor, and coordinate risk management projects for assigned portfolios.
  • Provide independent risk management and governance while collaborating with business lines and stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain relationships across Credit Strategy, Credit Risk Management, and lines of business.
  • Manage multiple projects, maintain documentation, and adjust priorities as conditions evolve.
  • Identify and manage emerging risks with Credit Risk Management and business units.
  • Develop metrics, segmentation, and credit policies to assess and mitigate exposure.
  • Assist with technology project requirements and analytics.
  • Work with centralized reporting teams on reporting, risk limits, and analysis.
  • Perform scenario analysis to assess exposure to risks and opportunities.
  • Prepare management reports and presentations on credit-focused initiatives.

Job description

  • Identify and manage emerging risks with Credit Risk Management and U.S. Bank business units

  • Develop metrics, segmentation, and credit policies to assess and mitigate exposure

  • Assist with technology project requirements and design ongoing or ad-hoc analyses

  • Work with centralized reporting teams on reporting, risk limits, and analysis

  • Perform scenario analysis to assess exposure to potential risks and opportunities

Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience

  • Typically more than 10 years of applicable experience

  • Understanding of basic credit risk management concepts, including 1st line and/or 2nd line experience related to underwriting and/or credit risk portfolio management preferred

  • Considerable knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, financial services, and regulatory trends

  • Broad understanding of credit risk processes and governance programs, and credit data at U.S. Bank or another mid-sized or large banking institution

  • Considerable understanding of business line operations, products/services, systems, and associated risks/controls

  • Thorough knowledge of Risk/Compliance/Audit competencies

  • Strong analytical, process facilitation, and project management skills

  • Interest and awareness of external environment and economic events and their potential impacts to credit risk

  • Effective presentation, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

  • Effective relationship building and negotiation skills

  • Proficient computer navigation skills using software packages, including Microsoft Office applications, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations

  • Applicable professional certifications

  • Ability to work from a U.S. Bank location three or more days per week

  • Ability to comply with U.S. Bank policies and procedures, including the Code of Ethics and Business Conduct and workplace conduct and safety policies


Demonstrates extensive expertise in credit risk management, including portfolio management, risk assessment, and governance. Proficient in developing strategies for risk mitigation and maintaining compliance with financial regulations.
