Job summary

Prosper is seeking a Credit Risk Analyst to join our Credit Risk team in Phoenix. You will develop credit and fraud strategies using SQL, Python, and ML techniques to optimize risk decisions in our online marketplace.

Candidate should have 2+ years of experience in credit or data science, strong analytical skills, and ability to communicate insights to leadership. We value initiative, collaboration, and the ability to work in a fast-paced fintech environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of experience, OR a Master’s degree with less experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or Economics
  • Background in Credit Risk, Fraud Risk, or Data Science within the consumer lending industry
  • Direct experience with consumer personal loans or credit cards is a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Python is required. Experience with DBT and Looker is a plus
  • Strong communication skills to explain complex concepts to peers and leadership
  • Knowledge of segmentation, statistical procedures, and financial analytic tools
  • Curious, asks questions, and challenges the status quo
  • Ownership and drive to deliver results
  • Ability to work fast-paced, meet deadlines, and handle ambiguity
  • Candidates from non-financial services with strong analytical skills will be considered

Responsibilities

  • Develop credit and fraud strategies using data, ML models, and analytics to optimize risk decisions
  • Propose innovative approaches to risk assessment and recommendations
  • Design A/B tests and weigh risk vs. customer experience trade-offs
  • Experiment with new data and modeling approaches to improve risk outcomes
  • Collaborate with Data Science, Product, Engineering and other teams to implement risk strategies
  • Perform ad-hoc risk analyses related to product and operations
  • Analyze portfolio performance at detailed segment levels
  • Identify trends and root causes driving performance
  • Present findings and recommendations to Risk Management and Prosper teams

The successful candidate will join Prosper’s Credit Risk team. The Credit Risk team uses analytics tools to develop strategies that govern automated decisions in Prosper’s online marketplace. A Credit Risk Analyst at Prosper has the opportunity to utilize advanced analytical skills to develop verification and fraud strategies using models and data in order to manage credit decisions. An ideal candidate should have strong hands-on analytical skills and a passion for solving problems in innovative and effective ways. The faster and more agile risk strategies keep our marketplace competitive and ensure that we continue to deliver on our mission of advancing financial well-being.

How you’ll make an impact
  • Develop credit and fraud strategies to improve the credit performance by using data, machine learning models, and advanced analytics tools to optimize risk decisions
  • Bring innovative, out of the box thinking to make recommendations and solve problems
  • Design A/B tests and understand the risk and customer experience trade-offs
  • Continue to innovate by testing new data, analytical approaches, and models
  • Partner with Data Science, Product, Engineering and other partner teams to implement credit and fraud prevention strategies, test, and validate pre and post performance
  • Conduct ad-hoc analysis related to risk management, product, and operations
  • Analyze portfolio performance at a granular segment level on an ongoing basis
  • Identify trends and conduct root-cause analysis to isolate key performance drivers
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to the Risk Management and broader Prosper community
Skills that will help you thrive
