Responsibilities

  • Review and evaluate commercial loan requests and annual reviews.
  • Analyze business financial statements, personal financial statements, and tax returns.
  • Spread financial statements and assess historical performance including strengths and weaknesses.
  • Research industry trends and economic factors affecting the business.
  • Perform cash flow, collateral, ratio, and trend analyses for borrowers/guarantors.
  • Prepare detailed credit presentations for Loan Committees (OLC/DLC/BOD).
  • Describe company background, management, and financial performance in narratives.
  • Assess risks and the Bank's ability to mitigate them; determine risk ratings.
  • Ensure compliance with Loan Policy (LTV, limits, collateral).
  • Document loan policy exceptions and required information.
  • Support Loan Operations in lending policies and procedures.

Position Summary:

The Credit Analyst is responsible for assisting in the underwriting process for commercial loans by identifying, evaluating, and defining key credit risks. This position analyzes borrowers, guarantors, financial performance, repayment capacity, collateral, industry conditions, and transaction structure across a diversified commercial loan portfolio.

This position partners closely with commercial lenders, provides ongoing portfolio guidance, assists with borrower and prospect meetings, and mentors less-experienced credit analysts. The position reports to a Chief Credit Officer and supports the Bank's credit policies, risk-management standards, and regulatory compliance obligations.

Responsibilities:
  • Review and evaluate commercial loan requests and annual reviews.
  • Analyzing business financial statements, personal financial statements, and tax returns.
  • Spreading financial statements and evaluating an entity's historical performance including strengths and weaknesses.
  • Researching and analyzing industry trends and economic factors affecting the business.
  • Perform cash flow, collateral, ratio, and trend analysis on borrower and/or guarantors.
  • Prepare detailed credit presentations for Officer (OLC)/Director (DLC)/Board (BOD) Loan Committees.
  • Preparing detailed narratives of company background, management expertise, and financial performance.
  • Assess strengths, weaknesses, major risk factors, overall risk, and the Bank's ability to mitigate key risks identified.
  • Completing a risk rating analysis for each loan.
  • Review compliance with Loan Policy (e.g. LTV, lending limits, collateral, etc.).
  • Document loan policy exceptions (e.g. LTV, lending limits, collateral, etc.).
  • Compiling the required information and documents.
  • Being a resource for others on Loan Policy and Lending Procedures.
  • Monitoring loan renewals and collaborating with lenders to obtain all required documents and information to maintain timely loan renewals.
  • Monitor financial statement exceptions and assist lenders in collecting the necessary information.
  • Support Loan Operations in ensuring lending policies and procedures are followed on an ongoing basis.
  • Recommend risk rating changes when applicable.
  • Service and maintain loan portfolio stress testing database.
  • Interact by phone and in person with customers, prospects, and COIs to obtain critical information for loan analysis and underwriting.
  • Keep up with industry trends, vacancy rates, cap rates, national/state/local economies.
  • Understanding and reviewing real estate valuations.
  • Attend outside training and report information to the team.
  • Provide administrative support and other duties as needed.
  • Complete all work by following established policies and operating procedures.
  • Treat all client inquiries, questions, complaints with respect and follow through.
  • Maintain the Bank's goal to be accessible to the client and to provide premium quality service.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior with clients and prospects.
  • Assist the Bank in keeping abreast of the competition in terms of rates, services, and products.
  • Be aware of and support the Bank's efforts in meeting Community Reinvestment Act (CRA).

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Possess a desire to learn and expand knowledge across the organization.
  • Must be flexible and patient.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, accounting, or economics preferred.
  • Prior relevant experience desired.
  • Banking experience would be preferred.
Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to sit for periods greater than 45 minutes at a time.
  • Must be able to stand for periods greater than 30 minutes at a time.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to use computer monitors for periods greater than 45 minutes at a time.
  • Must be able to perform basic typing functions.
  • Some area travel - approximately 5%.
