Job Profile

The bank is hiring a Credit Analyst who will be responsible for analyzing various historical and projected financial statements of individuals and businesses to identify the degree of risk involved in extending credit. The findings are presented in a detailed report for approval or denial by executive management or loan committees. The report includes, but is not limited to, the preparation of cash flow analysis, ratio analysis, thorough industry and market analysis, well-defined sensitivity analysis, and determination of credit risk following bank policy and direction of the VP of Credit.

Liaison with other departments regarding lending activities and other duties as directed by management.

Assures compliance with all Bank policies and procedures, as well as all applicable state and federal banking regulations.

Education Level
  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or agribusiness (preferred)
Work Experience
  • Preferred minimum 1 year of experience or training, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Work-related experience should consist of credit analysis or underwriting.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Analyzes financial information and prepares the primary analysis for the lender.
  • Analyzes loan data on new, renewal, and existing loans, including data provided by credit bureaus, other financial institutions, and bank files.
  • Assign a risk rating outlining the strengths and weaknesses of each credit.
  • Clear and concise technical writing with an understanding of accounting, various financial statements, ratios, forecasting, and concepts.
  • Communicates with Lenders to obtain financial statements on existing borrowers to ensure proper analysis is complete.
  • Conduct thorough financial, cash flow, and collateral analysis of credit requests.
  • Effectively answer all relevant questions concerning credit analysis.
  • Efficiently manage deadlines in a high-pressure work environment.
  • Obtains loan request information from the commercial lender or borrower to analyze credit information, financial statements, and other related information of the loan.
  • Perform recommendations based on analysis and assessment of risk within the framework of the Bank’s credit culture, current economic condition, and industry trends.
  • Prepare a clear and concise loan memorandum for approval/denial of credit requests.
  • Prepares spreadsheets, reports, summaries, and opinions for financial institution officers on new, renewal, and existing loans.
  • Provides technical advice and assistance to loan officers as needed.
  • Reconcile financial statements and identify discrepancies and variances.
  • Represents Sauk Valley Bank in various community, civic, and community reinvestment functions to further enhance the Bank’s image and develop additional business.
  • Research background documentation and review personal and business financial statements and tax returns.
  • Review financials and analyze customer information.
  • Work closely and effectively communicate with the lenders or accountants (both in writing and orally) with respect to questions regarding financial information and customers’ operations.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
  • Ability to deal with difficult problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations
  • Ability to organize and prioritize to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Excellent financial analytical skills with sound judgement and decision-making abilities
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Knowledge of related state and federal banking compliance regulations, and other Bank operational policies
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision while performing duties.
Working Conditions
  • An open office that is mostly clean and comfortable, where exposure to the outside weather elements and some minor annoyances such as noise, odors, drafts, etc., may occur. The incumbent is in a non-confined office-type setting in which he or she is free to move about at will.
