Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Limited seeks a Credit Analyst in New York for credit evaluation and portfolio monitoring in Trade and Commodity Finance. The role requires evaluating transactions, preparing memos, and maintaining credit quality with cash flow and market analysis.

We expect a Finance/Economics degree and 3+ years in related finance roles, plus strong Excel/PowerPoint skills and Bloomberg access. The position offers a hybrid schedule with in-office collaboration two days per week.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Economics or equivalent with 3+ years related experience in Trade & Commodity Finance or Corporate Finance.
• Good knowledge of finance and basic accounting.
• Good knowledge of Bloomberg, EDGAR, and rating agencies.

Responsibilities

• Reviews potential transactions in Trade and Commodity Finance and prepares credit memos and cash flow models for underwriting.
• Monitors assigned transactions with financial analysis, cross‑sectional analysis, and liquidity trends.
• Ensures compliance with investment guidelines and directives from Head Office and Branch Management.
• Prepares applications and reports and makes recommendations on amendments, waivers, refinancings, and other activities.
• Manages Head Office and Branch monitoring and reporting requirements, including rating and portfolio reviews.
• May conduct business development activities and support deal structuring as needed.

Department Overview

The Americas Division (“AD”) was established in the Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Limited, New York Branch) (“SMTBNY”) to perform corporate functions and supervise U.S. entities. Established under the AD are the “Global Banking Unit (“GBU”), Americas Division” and “Global Markets Unit (“GMU”), Americas Division” which performs business functions.

Specialty Finance Department (“SFD”)

The Specialty Finance Department (“SFD”) is responsible for originating, booking and monitoring credit facilities for both bilateral and syndicated loan transactions. SFD focuses on building and monitoring portfolio assets in 3 main product areas: Project Finance, Trade and Commodity Finance, and Aviation Finance.

Your Role Overview:

Responsible for credit evaluation and deal maintenance for transactions in Trade and Commodity Finance.

Your Duties and Responsibilities

• Reviews potential transactions in Trade and Commodity Finance and prepares credit memos, applications, cash flow models, and other relevant material for underwriting purposes.
• Monitors assigned transactions to maintain credit quality through appropriate measures, i.e., financial analysis and trends, cross-sectional analysis, cashflow analysis and market value/liquidity.
• Ensures compliance with applicable investment guidelines and directives from Head Office and Branch Management.
• Prepares all applications and reports and makes recommendations on all amendments, waivers, refinancings and other ongoing activities.
• Responsible for all Head Office and Branch monitoring and reporting requirements, including rating review, business review of documentation, regulatory review, booking and financial and portfolio review requirements, with support from Operations Analyst as designated.
• May conduct business development activities such as managing or assisting to manage relationships with clients in assigned sector.
• May conduct or support deal structuring activities.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Your Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Economics or equivalent with 3+ years related experience in Trade & Commodity Finance or Corporate Finance.
• Good knowledge of finance and basic accounting.
• Good knowledge of commonly used research resources, including Bloomberg, EDGAR, and rating agencies.
• Basic knowledge of corporate finance transactions.
• Basic knowledge of loan markets.
• Advanced in Microsoft 365 (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Access)and some modeling capabilities.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
