Job Description

The Credit Analyst is responsible for performing thorough financial analysis and risk assessment on new, renewal, and existing loan requests. This role prepares credit write-ups and recommendations for loan officers and loan committees, ensuring all decisions are supported by accurate financial spreads, clear identification of sources of repayment, and sound risk evaluation. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, a deep understanding of financial analysis, and the ability to ask critical questions to support sound credit decisions.

Essential Duties and/or Responsibilities
  • Complete detailed credit write-ups for new credit requests, credit change requests, renewals, and annual relationship reviews.
  • Provide analysis of repayment sources, credit strengths and weaknesses, summaries, and recommendations for loan officers and loan committees.
  • Ask critical questions (“why” and “how”) to support sound credit decisions and recommend risk ratings and changes when analysis merits.
  • Report findings that may have an adverse effect on loan collateral and/or borrowers’ ability to repay the loan.
  • Accurately spread financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow) and calculate key financial ratios (debt service coverage, leverage, liquidity, etc.).
  • Ensure proper input of loan structure and terms into the bank’s credit system.
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of the Bank’s lending policies and procedures & identify exceptions to policy.
  • Review loan files as needed to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance with lending guidelines and regulations.
  • Complete reviews of collateral appraisals and evaluations as assigned.
  • Deliver efficient, timely service to loan officers and internal customers.
  • Assist in cross selling & referrals to other departments in bank, promote a positive energetic environment and as part of overall team, & support other bank activities as requested.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated understanding of financial data (balance sheet, income statements, cash flows, financial ratios, etc.) and ability to apply skills as they pertain to loan underwriting process.
  • Self-motivated, with excellent attention to detail and organizational skills; persistent in follow-through.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Flexible to change in a growing organization.
  • Previous experience in multiple software and technology (Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Credit Quest, Finpack, or other credit analytics software a plus).
Desired Experience
  • Minimum 4-5 years’ experience in commercial credit analysis
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, Business, or related field preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial lending laws and regulations.
