Job Overview:

The Credentialing Specialist is responsible for managing application processing, verification, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards to support credentialing and reappointment of medical staff.

Promotes a culture of excellence, effective communication, and collaboration with Medical Staff Office leadership, staff, providers, and administrative leaders within RWJBarnabas Health.

Handles complex, sensitive, and confidential issues with discretion.

Develops a strong understanding of medical staff operations across affiliated institutions and collaborates with local Medical Staff Offices to ensure timely credentialing processes.

Strives to foster a unified culture of excellence and efficiency across the organization.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Associates degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Completion of all RWJBarnabas Health orientation programs

Preferred:

  • At least two (2) years of experience in CVO or Medical Staff Services in an acute healthcare setting, including credentialing and privileging
  • Certification such as CPMSM or CPCS preferred
  • Knowledge of credentialing software and applications strongly preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and adapt quickly to changes

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Hybrid model with on-site and remote work options

Essential Functions:

  • Manage application and verification activities, including preliminary analysis
  • Identify red flags or adverse information and notify leadership accordingly
  • Monitor expiring credentials such as DEA, licenses, insurance, and certifications; maintain updated files
  • Ensure database accuracy and completeness
  • Maintain electronic files and documentation
  • Communicate effectively with local medical staff offices
  • Prepare credential files for audits and hospital submissions
  • Monitor staff productivity and ensure timely processing
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant regulatory standards and hospital bylaws
  • Assist in workflow development and form revision
  • Participate in special projects and train new staff
  • Enforce internal procedures and resolve issues proactively
  • Support team productivity and goal achievement
  • Perform other duties as assigned
