Job summary

MedVet is seeking a Contingent Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency and Specialty team. The role demands quick thinking in a fast-paced ER, with responsibilities spanning rounds, client communication, and anesthesia support.

The position offers a base hourly range with differential pay for evenings and weekends, and requires State Registered Veterinary Technician license and prior veterinary emergency experience.

Qualifications

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license is required.
• Prior veterinary experience, emergency experience preferred.
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, CRIs, unit conversions).
• Flexible schedule and able to work additional hours when needed.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather additional information as necessary.
• Evaluating incoming patients and prioritizing based on assessment.
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns.
• Provide client education including, but not limited to: home care instructions, medications and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients.
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.

Position

Contingent Licensed Veterinary Technician Shift: Will be on an as needed basis

Responsibilities

Our Emergency team is the perfect place for technicians who thrive in a fast‑paced environment, can shift gears quickly and handle the stress of critical situations with ease. Every day is different and there’s never the same case twice!

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather additional information as necessary
• Evaluating incoming patients and prioritizing based on assessment
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns
• Provide client education including, but not limited to: home care instructions, medications (indications, adverse reactions) and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures
• Perform in‑house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing

Qualifications

• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment

Compensation

This position has an initial hiring range of $24.00 to $40.00 per hour based on skill set and experience. We support our caregivers with lucrative shift differentials:

• Hours worked between 8:00 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. = base pay + $2.00 per hour
• Hours worked between 12:00 a.m. and 7:59 a.m. = base pay + $3.00 per hour
• Hours worked on weekends (day or night) = base pay + $1.00 per hour + any applicable differential
