Peraton is looking to fill multiple roles for driven and detail-oriented Background Investigators, specifically for our Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Background Investigations contracts across the United States.
This position is 100% remote.

Investigator Job Responsibilities:
- Investigate federal employees, contractors, and applicants seeking security clearance or sensitive positions.
- Verify employment history, education, military service, financial records, and criminal history.
- Analyze credit reports and other relevant data using investigative databases and public records.
- Collect and review court records, police reports, financial documents, and other pertinent records.
- Interview applicants, former employers, coworkers, neighbors, and references.
- Write comprehensive reports summarizing findings for security clearance adjudicators.
- Ensure reports are factual, objective, and meet investigative standards.
- Manage multiple investigations simultaneously, meeting deadlines.
- Track progress and ensure timely report submission.
- Stay updated on company policies, investigative techniques, and policy changes.
Qualifications
Required qualifications:
- Four years of general work experience or a bachelor’s degree; experience with DCSA/NBIB or federal background investigations preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance; active federal background investigation with T5 adjudication preferred.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Home office setup required.
- Temporary travel (14-30 days) may be required.
- Typing speed of 40+ WPM recommended; ability to work with multiple computer programs.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone; high accuracy in recording and transcribing.
- Proficient writing and grammar skills for high-quality reports.
- Professional interaction skills, punctuality, attention to detail during fieldwork.
- Maintain confidentiality, ethics, and integrity.
- Professional attire required.
- Ability to lift/move up to 10 pounds, climb stairs, walk extensively, and stand/sit for long periods.
