Job DescriptionTitle: CREC School Bus Driver- Hartford Location
Reports: CREC Transportation Coordinator
Overview: Responsible for maintaining a safe environment for students traveling to and from school. School Bus drivers pick up and drop off students at stops along established routes each day within the school calendar schedule. They may also transport students and faculty to special events, such as field trips or sporting events. Drivers must be attentive to traffic and weather conditions while staying on schedule and ensuring the safety of the passengers. They must ensure that their vehicles are operating properly by conducting a vehicle inspection each day. Drivers are also responsible for maintaining a safe environment within the bus by enforcing rules on conduct and responding to emergencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Driver will report to CREC Transportation, 245 Locust Street Hartford location. Any driver assigned to a Granby route will be shuttled to and from the Granby bus location and paid travel time.
- Able to perform the physical requirements of the position, including the assurance that the vehicle is safe and legal to transport student’s daily.
- Transport students to and from schools or programs safely and efficiently.
- Communicate and report all disciplinary issues.
- Reinforce school bus rider rules while supervising students.
- Develop a positive professional relationship with parents, school staff, and students.
- Ensure familiarity with assigned route and students.
- Ensure that students unload at their scheduled stops.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both orally and in writing, with emphasis on oral communication skills.
- Ability to handle problems and stressful situations.
- Prepare necessary paperwork and reports.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Attend monthly safety meeting.
- Submit to the random drug and alcohol program.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience- Hold and maintain a valid CT-CDL B with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
- Maintain a clean criminal and driving record.
- Maintain DOT physical qualification with current DOT medical card.
- Must have 5 years of safe driving experience and good knowledge of local geography.
- Must have skill and experience supervising children.
Drivers- Effective for the 2024-25school year
- To be a Van Driver the applicant needs to currently hold on their license the following:
- On Class D license-need V endorsement
- On CDL Class A, B or C license need PV or PS endorsement
- To be a School Bus Driver the applicant needs to currently hold:
- CDL Class A or B with a PS endorsements
Sign-On Bonus: $1,500 for non-endorsed; $3,000 for Endorsed Driver (STV/CDL Drivers)
- Payment: Half paid after 90 days; half paid at the end of the 2024-2025school year.
Employee must be actively employed by CREC at the time of payment.
