Job summary

Gray Media in Decatur, IL is seeking a production assistant to support the commercial production team in creating commercials and video content for clients. You will assist the promotions team with promos for our TV station using on-air talent and help develop social media content for our creative departments.

You will work closely with producers, videographers, and editors, handling equipment setup, basic editing, and social media deliverables to maintain brand quality across platforms.

Qualifications

• Proficient with Adobe Premiere Pro; support in After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Media Encoder.
• Experience or portfolio showing class projects, commercials, promos, motion graphics, or social video work is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Organize post-production files and perform initial cuts using Premiere Pro.
• Record B-roll, interviews, events and client scenes following shot lists.
• Capture and assemble content for social platforms (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook).
• Collaborate with producers, videographers, and on-air talent to match brand guidelines.
• Set up, test, and operate cameras, lighting, and audio equipment on location or in-studio.
• Monitor audio levels and ensure clean dialogue for client spots and promos.
• Assist in pre-production tasks such as location scouting and gear checks.
• Maintain and store cameras, lenses, cables, and lighting equipment after shoots.

Job Summary/Description:

This position will support our commercial production team in creating commercials and video content for clients, assist our promotions team in creating promos for our TV station with on-air talent, and help create photo/video social media content for our creative departments.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Basic Post-Production: Organize digital photo/video files, sort through raw clips, and perform initial cuts, basic transitions, or simple color adjustments using Adobe Premiere Pro, with support in After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Media Encoder.
• Filming & Capturing Footage: Record B-roll, interviews, events, client commercial scenes, and promotional scenes following pre-determined shot lists, storyboards, or producer/director instructions.
• Social Media Content Support: Assist in capturing and assembling photo/video content optimized for trending social media platforms (TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Facebook) for our creative departments and clients.
• Team Collaboration: Work alongside commercial producers, promotions producers, senior videographers, and on-air talent to ensure visual style matches client goals and station brand guidelines.
• Equipment Setup & Operation: Assemble, test, and operate cameras, tripods, lighting kits, and external microphones or lavalier mics on location or in-studio for commercial shoots and station promo shoots with on-air talent.
• Audio Management: Monitor sound levels, place lapel or directional microphones, and ensure clean dialogue capture for both client spots and on-air talent promos.
• Pre-Production Assistance: Help with basic planning tasks such as scouting locations, charging batteries, organizing gear checklists, and conceptualizing social media, commercial, or promo videos.
• Equipment Maintenance: Clean, pack, inventory, and properly store cameras, lenses, cables, and lighting equipment after a shoot.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Technical Familiarity (Required): Coursework, internship, or hands-on experience with:

• Adobe Premiere Pro
• Adobe Photoshop
• Adobe Illustrator
• Adobe Media Encoder
• Social Media Acumen: Comfortable shooting and editing short-form photo/video content for social platforms.
• Portfolio/Demo Reel: A link to a reel or portfolio showing class projects, commercials, promos, motion graphics, or social video work is strongly preferred.
