Job summary

AMSG seeks a Creative Services Specialist to provide Public Affairs support for the VA Acquisition Academy (VAAA) in an on-site role in Frederick, MD. The position covers planning, content development, multimedia production and coordination across PAO and contract staff.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree and at least three years in federal public affairs or related creative fields, with ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

AMSG i s seeking a Creative Services Specialist to provide Public Affairs support for the Department of Veterans Affairs Acquisition Academy (VAAA).

Education:

Description/Scope:

AMSG seeks a highly skilled Management Analyst / Creative Services Specialist to provide advisory, workflow management, and strategic communications support to the Public Affairs Office (PAO) at the Veterans Affairs Acquisition Academy (VAAA). This position supports VAAA's mission to enhance acquisition excellence and workforce readiness across the Department of Veterans Affairs through effective project management, communications planning, visual media production, and organizational coordination.

The successful candidate will support the full lifecycle of PAO initiatives, including planning, prioritization, project tracking, communications development, photography, graphic design, writing, video production, and print coordination. The position serves as a key integrator between PAO leadership and supporting contract personnel to ensure timely execution of communication products and strategic initiatives aligned with organizational priorities.

Responsibilities:
Planning, Prioritization, and Workflow Management
  • Develop and maintain portfolio roadmaps, integrated project plans, schedules, and workload trackers.
  • Support the planning, prioritization, and execution of PAO initiatives in alignment with organizational goals and leadership guidance.
  • Break down complex projects into actionable workstreams, tasks, milestones, and deliverables.
  • Coordinate and manage competing priorities to ensure completion of projects within established timelines.
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency, consistency, and effectiveness of communications and workflow management activities.
Project and Task Management
  • Organize, assign, and monitor work activities across the PAO portfolio.
  • Track project status, urgent requests, action items, and deliverables.
  • Ensure accountability, transparency, and timely completion of assigned work.
  • Maintain project documentation and facilitate coordination among stakeholders.
  • Provide support and coordination between PAO leadership and contractor support personnel.
Monitoring, Reporting, and Visualization
  • Maintain dashboards, Kanban boards, trackers, and other workload visualization tools.
  • Analyze workload, performance metrics, and project outcomes.
  • Prepare reports, executive summaries, briefings, and visual presentations for leadership.
  • Monitor progress against objectives and identify risks or delays requiring management attention.
Communications and Content Development
  • Develop, write, edit, and review communication products supporting PAO and organizational objectives.
  • Create content for websites, SharePoint sites, newsletters, articles, brochures, flyers, press releases, and other communication materials.
  • Assist in the development of communication strategies, messaging, and outreach campaigns.
  • Ensure content accuracy, consistency, accessibility, and alignment with organizational standards.
Photography and Visual Media Production
  • Capture professional photographs of organizational events, ceremonies, staff activities, official portraits, and other mission-related activities.
  • Edit and manage photographic assets for use across digital and print communications.
  • Maintain organized archives of photographic and visual media files.
  • Support visual storytelling efforts that highlight organizational accomplishments and initiatives.
Graphic Design and Print Production
  • Design graphics and visual materials for both digital and print platforms, including posters, signage, brochures, flyers, infographics, and presentation materials.
  • Develop layouts and branding-compliant communication products.
  • Coordinate print production activities with internal print facilities and external vendors.
  • Maintain print-ready files and ensure quality control of produced materials.
Video Production Support
  • Assist with planning, production, editing, and post-production of video content.
  • Support the creation of promotional, instructional, and informational videos.
  • Coordinate video production activities with PAO staff and stakeholders as required.
Coordination and Continuity of Operations
  • Serve as a liaison between the PAO and the broader contract support team.
  • Coordinate input from writers, analysts, designers, photographers, developers, and other support personnel.
  • Assist in maintaining continuity of operations and integrated service delivery across communication initiatives.
  • Support special projects and other communications-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Required:
  • Minimum three (3) years of professional experience in each of the following areas:
    • Public affairs support within a federal government, military, or defense-related organization.
    • Copywriting, editing, and content development.
    • Graphic design and visual communication.
    • Photography and photo editing.
    • Video production and post-production.
    • Project and task management.
    • Communication product development and execution.
Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud applications, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, or equivalent software.
  • Experience managing websites and digital communication platforms.
  • Designs and builds internal SharePoint HUBs, including landing pages, program hubs, and team sections for OAPMP offices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Teams.
  • Experience using project management and workflow tracking tools.
  • Knowledge of print production processes and vendor coordination.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or equivalent project management certification.
  • Experience supporting Department of Veterans Affairs organizations.
  • Experience developing executive-level briefings, dashboards, and reporting products.
Additional Requirements:
  • Ability to work full-time on-site at the customer location in Frederick, Maryland.
  • Some local travel may be required to support photography and communications mission requirements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
