Job summary

SmartSource is seeking a Lighting Designer to design, program, set up, and operate lighting for corporate meetings, trade shows, and live events. You will work with sales, project managers, and clients to develop practical lighting solutions within budgets and serve as lead onsite lighting technician for assigned events.

The ideal candidate combines creative design with hands-on execution and is comfortable creating concepts during planning and operating lighting systems in live environments.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years in live event production or theatrical lighting.
• Experience programming and operating professional lighting consoles.
• Knowledge of intelligent and conventional lighting fixtures.
• Familiarity with DMX, sACN, and Art-Net.
• Ability to design lighting layouts and create basic production drawings.
• Strong troubleshooting and customer service skills.
• Willingness to travel and work evenings, weekends, or holidays.

Responsibilities

• Develop lighting concepts for meetings, general sessions, exhibits, and events.
• Create lighting plots and equipment recommendations.
• Collaborate with Project Managers to support proposals and presentations.
• Review venue specs for lighting, power, and rigging.
• Lead installation, focus, rehearsal, show execution, and strike.
• Troubleshoot onsite lighting issues to ensure show quality.
• Coordinate with video, audio, LED, rigging teams and staff training.
