Job summary

Schechter Boston is seeking a creative, technically skilled filmmaker or media educator to empower students in grades 3–8 through storytelling and digital media. This on-site role involves leading small groups, guiding students through the filmmaking process, and building engaging projects with a supportive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Experience as a filmmaker, video editor, videographer, animator, media educator, or other creative professional in film and digital media.
• Familiarity with cameras, recording equipment, and video editing software.
• Understanding of filmmaking process including visual storytelling, composition, sound, and editing.
• Passion for working with children and helping them develop creative and technical skills.
• Ability to break complex projects into manageable steps for students of different ages and abilities.
• Strong organizational and communication skills with a warm, patient approach.
• Commitment to an inclusive environment where students can share ideas and learn together.

Responsibilities

• Teach the filmmaking process: storytelling, scriptwriting, storyboarding, filming, sound recording, editing, and screening.
• Develop creative workshops: stop-motion, documentary interviews, sound design, and special effects.
• Facilitate project-based learning: longer filmmaking projects with screenings or premieres.
• Encourage collaboration: students rotate roles such as director, camera operator, sound designer, actor, editor.
• Build technical skills: introduce cameras, tablets, computers, editing software and filmmaking tools.
• Support creative problem-solving: encourage experimentation and learning from mistakes.
• Create a supportive learning environment to boost confidence and perspective-sharing.
• Collaborate on curriculum: connect filmmaking with technology, storytelling, and design thinking.
