Brief Description

The Dragon Shield story began in 1999, in the backroom of a Danish gaming store with a gamer who knew card game accessories could be better, and for over 20 years, Dragon Shield has been the market leader and standard bearer in high-quality sleeves. In 2024 we celebrated our 25th anniversary, but one thing has always remained the same: We are still gamers, and that is reflected in everything we do.

The Creative Director is responsible for overseeing the visual aspects of product and concept design for the Dragon Shield brand, with potential assignments for other brands. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of design principles, typography, color theory, and layout techniques. Additionally, they stay up to date with current design trends and technologies to ensure the work remains fresh and relevant. The Creative Director also plays a key role in guiding and mentoring junior designers and junior art directors, providing feedback and support to help them grow in their careers.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive product graphics and packaging development for a robust portfolio of 100+ items across multiple accessory categories, including sleeves, deck boxes, binders, and new concepts.
• Manage the overall graphic design process, from the creation of initial product and packaging briefs to finished products, while overseeing internal workflows and multiple freelance artist agreements.
• Provide art direction and guidance to a team of 6 to 7 designers to ensure the successful execution of projects across both owned and licensed businesses.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including graphic designers, copywriters, product managers, product designers, as well as purchasing, marketing, and sales departments.
• Partner with sales to deliver merchandising guides and point-of-purchase materials that introduce new collections and highlight the evergreen product range and functions.
• Align with marketing and events teams to ensure consistent brand positioning across all consumer engagement platforms, including DTC sales platforms, social media, and live events.
• Work with licensors on overall line and segment branding, blending Dragon Shield identity with partner IP from initial concept through final approvals.
• Partner with the QA and vendor management teams to ensure packaging compliance with brand guidelines, safety standards, and translation requirements for global packaging.
• Oversee Dragon Shield storytelling in collaboration with copywriting and design teams.
• Foster a collaborative and positive work environment that promotes creativity and innovation.
• Actively participate in strategy sessions, workshops, presentations, and work-related travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, Fine Arts, Visual Arts, or other relevant educational backgrounds.
• 8+ years of experience in a similar position
• Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
• Proficiency in 3D rendering in Blender or similar
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Excellent English skills, both spoken and written
• Ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines
• Attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetics
• Knowledge and experience with artwork production, techniques, and processes
• Interest in trading card gaming, as well as a playful mindset, is an advantage
• If remote: willingness to travel to Dragon Shield office in Denmark frequently (every 5-6 weeks)
