Overview

Department: Communications

Position: Creative Designer

Location: Remote with preference for Eastern or Central Time.

Job Type: Full-Time

Reporting To: Creative Director

Required experience level: Minimum of 5 years of full-time experience working within a nonprofit organization in a staff role. This experience must include direct collaboration with internal stakeholders (e.g., program teams, leadership, development, and operations). Freelance or consulting experience alone will not be considered as equivalent; candidates must demonstrate sustained, in-house nonprofit experience.

Portfolio Requirement: Applications without a portfolio will not be considered; please ensure a current portfolio is included with your submission.

Compensation: 65,000-75,000k/year

About RAINN: RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization. RAINN operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline, and carries out programs to prevent sexual violence, help survivors, and ensure perpetrators are brought to justice.

Position Overview: We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Creative Designer to join our communications team at RAINN. The ideal candidate brings a strong, informed, and thoughtful creative perspective to every assignment. This person will be expected to deliver high-quality, visually compelling designs for a range of content and collateral in service of the organization’s mission and goals. They should be comfortable assessing the design needs of internal clients, managing multiple priorities, and communicating with stakeholders throughout the design process to set and meet reasonable deadlines and goals. This role involves collaboration across multiple teams and requires experience with a project management process to keep things moving and transparent, and a proactive approach to feedback and problem solving.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design engaging and on-brand graphics for various projects, including web and social graphics, digital and print materials such as reports and presentations, marketing assets, and more.
  • Apply storytelling techniques in design to create compelling visuals that resonate with intended audiences.
  • Design from an existing brand guide while adapting to different program needs.
Collaboration & Feedback
  • Collaborate with multiple teams to translate concepts into visually appealing designs that support organizational goals.
  • Take feedback constructively, refine work, and re-present updated designs.
  • Maintain brand consistency across all designs while adapting for different programs and campaigns.
Project Management & Independence
  • Follow established project management processes, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Design and execute assets that support campaigns across channels.
Accessibility & Best Practices
  • Ensure all designs are optimized for implementation and accessibility, including awareness of accessible color use and general accessibility best practices.
  • Stay up to date on design trends, tools, and best practices.
  • Review and refine designs with accuracy and strong attention to detail.
Special Projects
  • Support project success by contributing to related tasks within the scope of the role, as needed, and in alignment with organizational and team goals.
Position Specifications/Requirements

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in design, digital media, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional design experience within an organization.
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Canva.
  • Experience with graphics software including InDesign.
  • Experience creating compelling designs for print and digital materials and preparing files for printing and download.
  • Experience working with multiple program teams and development departments.
  • Familiarity with design systems and accessibility standards.
  • Ability to follow structured project management processes and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace applications (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms) with demonstrated ability to effectively utilize these tools for communication, collaboration, organization, and data management.
  • Must complete and pass a criminal background check administered by RAINN.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in UX/UI design is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS is a bonus but not required.
  • Experience in being able to apply 2D design skills.

RAINN's headquarters are based in Washington, DC. This position may be based regionally for someone whose residence is within the continental USA. Although this may be a remote role, it may require some periodic business travel to our DC offices for onsite meetings and training sessions.
