Job Description

• Establish and implement comprehensive therapeutic group and individual programs utilizing principles and practices of Creative Arts Therapy with transition age youth
• Conduct individual assessments of patient’s strengths and limitations
• Evaluate social, cognitive, psychological and physical functioning through the creative arts process
• Implement therapeutic interventions utilizing art, music, drama, and dance as a modality to facilitate patients’ attainment of treatment goals
• Ability to support youth in clinic and potential community settings that are supportive of youth independence
• Conducts safety assessments and other standardized tools
• Observe and identify verbal and non-verbal behaviors in clinical assessments.
• Facilitate groups and individual sessions with patients and their families
• Work with patients and families throughout the hospital and in the community
• Participate in ongoing training and individual supervision
• Conducts and/or attends individual, unit, departmental, intra/inter hospital, and community meetings as mandated by the administration and or supervisor
• Demonstrate knowledge about departmental, facility, network, city, state, federal and Joint Commission standards and regulations.
  
  

Minimum Qualifications

Assignment Level I

• A valid License or Limited Permit issued by the New York State Education Department to practice as a Creative Arts Therapist. Employees working with a Limited Permit must obtain
  
  

Licensure within two years from their date of appointment.

Assignment Level II

• A valid License issued by the New York State Education Department to practice as a Creative Arts Therapist; and
• Two years of full-time, paid, professional experience in creative arts therapy.
  
  

Assignment Level III

In addition to meeting the requirements for Assignment Levels II, Assignment Level III

Requires

• One additional year of experience.
  
  

Department Preferences

• 1 year working with children, adolescents, and families
• Strong clinical and communication skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment requires as well as effective time management skills.
• Interest in working with youth transitioning into adult services and fostering independence.
