Description

Responsible for providing an independent perspective in underwriting and managing complex Wholesale Banking loans and relationships up to the bank's legal lending limit. Partners with Relationship Managers, Credit Portfolio Managers, and the Credit Portfolio Management Team Leader in delivering credit solutions through: underwriting, portfolio management, deal team management, and extensive internal and external client interaction. Credit Portfolio Manager III is expected to be a subject matter expert (SME) in the respective portfolio and adheres to all regulatory and compliance guidelines.

Responsibilities
  1. Lead the independent underwriting process for new and renewal opportunities for clients and prospects within an assigned portfolio, including complex credits and larger portfolios within the Wholesale Bank.
  2. Provide in-depth, independent analysis of financial statements, management competencies, industry impact, competitive dynamics, collateral, and guarantor support for credit risk management.
  3. Prepare detailed financial projections using vendor solutions like Moody's Risk Analyst or Excel.
  4. Make recommendations to Relationship Managers and Credit Approvers regarding credit amount, structure, and policy compliance.
  5. Manage assigned portfolio proactively, monitor performance and trends, ensure risk rating integrity, and ensure compliance with covenants and regulatory reviews.
  6. Participate or lead client calls for financial discussions, deal information, and portfolio management.
  7. Contribute to special projects aimed at improving portfolio management.
  8. Ensure adherence to all applicable laws and regulations, including BSA/AML policies.
  9. Prioritize and coordinate deal, renewal, and portfolio management activities with stakeholders.
  10. Mentor junior Credit Portfolio Managers as appropriate.

This position reports to the Team Leader - Credit Portfolio Management.

Position Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance with at least seven years of experience in commercial lending.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Experience across multiple lines of business, including Commercial & Industrial, real estate development, and others. Skills in construction loan underwriting if supporting real estate lenders.
  • Subject matter expert in industry, credit, and lending practices.
  • Advanced analytical skills for financial statement analysis, including balance sheet, income, and cash flow trends.
  • Ability to make complex decisions and sound judgments.
  • Proficiency in analyzing financial statements, tax returns, and cash flows.
  • Knowledge of financial statement spreading and pro-forma preparation.
  • Excellent communication skills for structuring, negotiating, and problem resolution.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and financial software.
  • Research skills for industry and credit evaluation.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects independently and within a team.
