POSITION SUMMARYThe Crating and Material Handler performs manual and clerical duties related to shipping, receiving, inspecting, storing, issuing, and delivering a variety of materials and supplies. The Material Handler works and cross-trains in receiving, shipping, or material fulfillment departments. This position will be a dual role to assist the shipping manager and fulfillment coordinator as their day-to-day priorities require.JOB FUNCTIONSInclude the following, but other duties may be assigned.
- Count, weigh or measure incoming or outgoing items to compare identifying information and variety against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
- Examine incoming shipments for damage or shortages and correspond with shipper to rectify.
- Complete paperwork or forms required for documentation.
- Receive trucks and unload products or packages.
- Perform all work in accordance with crater job functions.
- Assist Lead in teardown, cleaning, and storage of any rigging equipment of machinery used in transport.
- Build and design proper-sized crates, boxes, and/or frames for small units to extremely large units (10' x 20' and larger).
- Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications. Seals loaded truck doors.
- Prepare materials for shipping by weighing, packaging, and stamping.
- Provide shipment weights and dimensions, tracking numbers to appropriate internal and external customers and prepare necessary shipping forms such as bills of lading.
- Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks or dollies to move stock or reorganize storage.
- Pull parts from or /receive parts into the VLM and perform associated inventory transactions.
- Stock parts delivered from outside suppliers and performed associated inventory transactions.
- Assist with pulling, packing, and shipping spare parts. Complete associated shipping paperwork and perform associated inventory transactions.
- Move heavy loads without damaging them, tilting, and guiding, as the site requires.
- Complete HAZMAT Certification process prior to performing receiving or shipping functions.
- Follow all safety procedures.
- Assist with cycle counts and all scheduled fiscal inventories.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
- Regular and reliable attendance.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED equivalent; OR a minimum of two years of experience in a warehouse, storeroom, logistics or distribution environment.
- Forklift experience or certification.
- RF Scanner experience.
- Basic computer proficiency including ERP system experience.
- Able to accurately use basic math skills.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be detail oriented with a drive for efficiency and accuracy of work.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize demands in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be a self-starter with a sense of urgency.
