Job summary

Southern States LLC is seeking a Crater Packer 5 to fabricate wooden crates, pack machinery, and prepare shipments. The role operates on 2nd shift (3:30pm-11pm) with a pay rate of $23.01 per hour, in a full-time capacity at our Hampton, GA facility.

Responsibilities include reading specifications, setting up cutting tools, assembling and boxing crates, labeling shipments, and transporting materials using a fork truck or pallet jack. A HS diploma or GED and basic math are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 3–6 months related experience or equivalent.
• Ability to read measurements and blueprints and perform basic math.
• WorkKeys Ready with Applied Math 4, Graphic Literacy 4, Workplace Observation 2.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints and notices to determine materials and quantities.
• Set up and operate band saw, table saw and cut off saw.
• Pack, crate, label, and ship products; use forklift or pallet jack as needed.
• Ensure accuracy, quality and safety in packing and boxing duties.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Southern States LLC Crater Packer 5 fabricates wooden crates or boxes using hand & power tools and packs such items as machinery or other large or odd shaped products.

HOW YOU WILL ADD VALUE:

• Reads blueprints, shipping notices, and other specifications to determine materials and quantities to needed.
• Lays out dimensions on materials with ruler, measuring tape, and pencil.
• Set up and operate band saw, table saw and/or cut off saw.
• Saws wood and metal materials to size.
• Assembles materials as needed.
• Bundles products together or places product into containers.
• Bolts heavy pieces to bottom of container or skid.
• Wraps and pads product with paper or other packing material.
• Builds crate around large or odd shaped articles.
• Nails cover on crate.
• Attaches identification labels or stencils containing such information as shipping destination, weight, and type of product contained on crate.
• Repairs broken crates.
• Counts items to be packed to ensure compliance with shipping orders.
• Weighs loaded crate.
• Transports products, containers, crates, lumber or other shipping materials using fork truck or pallet jack.
• Maintains equipment and working area in a clean and orderly condition.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three to six months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract whole numbers, fractions and decimals. Ability to use simple mathematical and geometric devices, such as, calculators, calipers, scales, measuring tapes, etc.
